Last of the shadow 1, or early shadow2,..
Check wheel arches, chassis rails, rear lower quarters. Leaks on suspension.

All previous MOTs look good to me , don't think it actually requires one because of its age but he is booking it in at a specialist in Leeds.

Any car that's not been used for five years is going to require some recommissioning. A Rolls like that is going to be even more of a wallet killer than a pampered car that's been in frequent use.

Wouldn't disagree with that. A guy on another forum I frequent bought an oldish Bentley, and the amount of money he got through getting it and keeping it roadworthy was truly frightening.

Have you seen the one Harry Metcalfe bought? £4100 on eBay he's just driven it to the North Pole and back.

That's the basic mulsanne, just a V8, you want the turboR red label, Inc handling pack.

Engines are basically simple[although they can look complex]lumps of iron, gearboxes no worse than other auto boxes.Big ticket items are bodywork-there's a lot of it and they do rust-braking system and Citroenesque suspension. The brake servo was[I think this still holds true of the Shadows]powered from the gearbox making the brakes less effective[needing a harder push for same effect]when in reverse.Parts costs can be reduced if they can be cross referenced with fitment to other cars e.g. many years ago a distributor cap was £70 for a Rolls one where one for a Daimler V8 250[same item]was only £10 it's a matter of knowing which parts from other vehicles fit.I'd have a Rolls/Bentley tomorrow if I had the money to buy one :y

Got to say it looked an absolute minter , smooth could not feel any gear changes engine was as smooth as silk & was very responsive to a right foot ! My opinion is he has bought a very nice car the plate alone must be worth a few quid.

Sounds like he may well have himself a bargain then and I hope it serves him well :y Of course it goes without saying if he uses it regularly he'll get to be very friendly with local petrol station staff :D

Banger boys love them at the £1800-£2500 range.
They sell all the trim, glass and brightwork.
Sometimes they even sell on the engine and box
They return around £3000 and still have the rest of the car left to race
