my over 70 license reminder came today. my present one expires expires at midnight 23rd December. however i completed the form online and was informed on completion that i can expect it within 2 weeks.
-
Got mine in 5 days Ray. :y
-
They need to start issuing new HGV licences as quickly! ::) :)
-
I've just had to pay to renew mine and it will need renewing again in 18 months. :o
I wonder what happens if you're licence expires something like two months before your 70th birthday?
-
As a diabetic on insulin I have just entered the, usually, long process to renew my 3 year licence applying online.
But at least I do not have to pay for the renewal! :D ;)
-
When my mother renewed hers, it took 9 months sat in a public service circular argument.
They wanted to know the name of her consultant (she has MS), she does not have a consultant, apparently an MS nurse is not good enough, so they write to the GP, the GP has no idea and suggests contacting the MS nurse......

Mines due in 2024 should be easier then perhaps they would have got their act together ! But I won't hold my breath..

Is this something old people have to do? :)

Yes. And DVLA haven't got the guts to force them to pass driving tests again either (assuming they ever took one) so they're dawdling around everywhere, 40MPH in a 20, 40 in a 40, 40 in a 60, 40 in a 100. ::)

That's the most ignorant post i've seen for quite some time. Shame on you. You'll be old someday mate. ::)

True. I heard somewhere recently that the DVLA would normally issue something like 4000 HGV licences in January but January this year they issued around 10% of that.
And then people are asking why we have a shortage of truck drivers.

Too close to the truth for you ehh? ;D
Anyway, I'll never grow old. It's just that everyone older than me is a doddery old coffin dodger, and everyone younger than me is a baseball cap wearing unemployable student. And everyone that doesn't agree with my point of view is either a closet commi, or some kind of right wing neo-Nazi. ::)

Periodically this subject comes up on the forum. I think the UK should do like Spain and have a medical every five years in order to renew your licence after 65.
Doesn’t stop the idiots driving under 65 but is a start..

With Diabetes we do in affect get a medical review every 3 years, with full medical disclosure by the GP to the DVLA. So at least one sector of the 'older' generation is being medically monitored.
How long though before no one will require to learn to drive or have a licence with no doubt the continuing progress of electric , hydrogen cell vehicles that drive themselves? Within 20 years? Or even linked in to the demise of internal combustion engines after 2030, with great advances in technology? ??? ??? ;)

That’s unfair. The doddery old fart this morning was doing between 15 to 25mph in the NSL, but did reach a whopping 45mph in the 30 limit on Bicester. Left me for dust. I caught him up at a roundabout, as he had to wait for traffic to approach before he could pull out.

Define working? Being as idle and useless as they are when at work? Or even more idle?

I think 10% productivity, from their woeful standard performance, speaks for itself...

The trouble is, you eventually reach a point where you daren't pull out in case you can't get back in :D

There's only one place where they manage to gain significant momentum.

Is this an example of 'accelerator-brake confusion syndrome' that many old people seem to suffer with.... ::) 8)

Does question the sanity of signing off the new Leaf with only one pedal ???
At least with two distinct pedals that do opposite things you have half a chance of hitting the correct one hard enough to make a difference...

How does that work in practice?

I believe it's press to go and lift off to stop :-\ How quickly you do either depends on how much it reacts... I suppose, being fairy dust powered, it relies on regenerative forces to slow it significantly...

I can see a hundred situations where that might go horribly wrong ;D

.....about 99% of the time when the technology is applied by old people. ;D

Applied for mine at a post office on the Wednesday lunch time.
License dropped on the door mat on the Saturday morning.
The only changes was I lost ‘D’ but kept D1 whatever that means

You're no longer allowed to drive buses but have been downgraded to just minibuses with 16 passenger seats...
