Title: Finland
Post by: Varche on 12 May 2022, 13:33:45
Good thing to have Finland and Sweden in NATO?

Finland have 200,000 soldiers. That is quite a lot compared with say Britain.
Putin won’t be happy. Exactly what he said he didn’t want is happening.

Probably.....

Although it may well make Vlad even more trigger happy.

Yes and 900,000 reserves  :o.  Sweden will probably follow too and they will be a very good addition. Putin has made things far worse for Russia now, although to be fair there has been a build up around Russia over the last few years but, why wouldn’t you? The guy is a tyrant he’s always wanted to reintergrate the USSR at any cost. Very smart move by UK to pal up with these vital countries when we are playing holy hell with Putin, they have been sending submarines close to our naval assets and flying over with increasing regularity over the last couple of years now is a good time to fight back while we have most of the world against them

Mostof the world against them ?

I think there are three camps .

The West who , perhaps understandably, believe they have right on their side

China, India, Pakistan and quite a few other countries that see Russia as a natural ally and trading partner. India buys a shed load of military hardware from Russia  and Russia opens up trade routes to the North of India.

The rest probably sit on the fence. Argentina as an example wouldn”t rush to help Britain when/if it is taken in a surprise coup using surprise weapons . There are many other countries that sit on the fence  too.

So maybe most of the world isnt actually against Russia……..

They are definitely more against them than they were before they invaded Ukraine, and that was my point.

I can't get over the amount of appeasers who bleat about being careful in case he uses nuclear weapons. He is a bully and there's only one way to deal with bullies, and that's not by cowering away from confronting him.

This mess has been caused because the world didn't confront him in 2014 when he took Crimea.  ::)

Yes, but that was more of a bloodless coup, where he sowed discord and installed his 'little green men'. He did the same in Eastern Ukraine. He probably thought he'd roll straight through the rest of the country before the west had a chance to react. But his poorly trained, poorly supplied army couldn't hack it. That's when the rape and murder of civilians, and the long range unguided weapons started.
I reckon, if he had a crystal ball, he'd never have got into this. But he hasn't....and he did, and the west won't be happy until he's history.

It started way back when the USSR had fallen apart and NATO (at Clintons behest) having assured Russia it wouldnt expand closer to its borders, did the complete opposite and took advantage of Russian weakness, by starting to expand eastwards.
This created the siege mentality in Russia that allowed Putin to come to power.
If they had treated Russia the way they treated Germany after WW2 things may well have been very different.
Then in 2014 the EU (probably egged on by the U.S.) covertly helped organise the overthrow of Ukraines "Russia friendly" President which reinforced Putins message to the Russians that the West was out to destroy Russia and he was the man to save them from this.
Stupid western leaders - Clinton, Obama, and the EU lot, stumbled into this.
His invasion of Ukraine though has, so far, bit him on the arse. Ukraine have put up a hell of a fight, which he didnt expect, and his actions have brought some unity and purpose to the previously divided and complacent West.
NATO now has good justification to expand right up to Russia,s borders and will almost certainly do so.
As a strategist the man is an idiot.
Two possible scenarios left to play out imo. Someone in Russia does something about him, or he takes the world to the brink (maybe beyond it) of WW3.
As the irritating tit Sting once sang "I hope the Russians love their children too".
