General Discussion Area / Followed by 15 police cars
« on: 06 October 2023, 00:09:13 »
I picked up a tail of fifteen police cars tonight on the motorway. I was doing the speed limits and they tucked in behind me ( obviously having been doing more than….)  Then they followed me off the motorway.

Wasn’t too concerned as every bridge and intersection on the motorway had at least one machine gun type armed cop today . To do with 25 heads of EU countries meeting in Granada to agree ( or not) more arms to Ukraine. I suspect they were on loan from elsewhere in Spain and billeted in our home town before returning home. Must have cost Spain a fortune in security……..

 ;D ;D ;D That would be right.

Parish councils and town halls exist to solve such problems.

In the meantime bring back the stocks ( preferably made of ash) and a big supply of vinegared conkers.

I have heard through a work collegues network that it was because of the amount of traffic caused in the local area by people wanting to stop and take pictures. Been one or two locals who have voiced there anger about it stating it was ruining the area

Tough. They seriously need to get a life. ( preferably in jail). Tourism brings in money and better infrastructure.

It was a seriously sad bastard that did that. Most skilled chain  sawers have the utmost respect for trees . That was an act of wanton vandalism and two fingers to folk who enjoyed the tree. I hope they rot in jail

Our current Home Secretary is trying to do something, but those whole hold the real power wont let her.

Excellent speech from SB in the US.

But was it? Is the US coping with migration? What has it got, about two million people in their asylum system being processed. No cross party support for changes to the system and zero likelihood of it.

I bet nothing changes with a framework agreed post WW2 over 70 years ago.

And I keep saying it is a global problem and it will only get worse.

Meloni got in power in Italy and it has got worse not better as her party predicted. Same with the Tories in UK. Do you see a pattern of futility…….

Clmate change deniers make me laugh. The evidence is everywhere.. Mankind does not deserve the Earth. We are all idiots.

Had it at least three times here. First time mild second was pretty ghastly for a couple of days. Two weeks ago we both had a different variant. Just whacked each day.

Spanish make me laugh. They greet you with higs and then say “ I have been bad with ….. but I am alright now” Schools have just gone back so it will be rife.

But folk will still be able to buy s/h  none ev cars after 2035 and use them ( always assuming that ulez hasnt extended to even small towns. Malaga has just announced, despite being 80% complete, that the ULEZ due Jan 24 will now be Jan 25. Thank god.

Tigger. I think you have something there about Europe. I think it makes sense to align Britain with Germany and France.anyway car industry wise.

So many oceans👍 so few desalination plants🙄 we’ve an abundance of water it just needs management

How would that work for Africa?

The only way to prevent this sort of immigration is to make our places even worse than theirs. I hope that even the most bigoted can see the major flaw in that 'solution'

Same way as it works everywhere else it’s used, it’s a sad truth that most of Africa are content to live in huts and such (which of course is up to them)  but they have little motivation to strive to enter the modern world. Therefore they’re suffering the consequences of inaction, everybody everywhere starts with nothing💁🏿‍♂️  they will make our places worse than theirs eventually without our help. I’ve typed this with no prejudice merely as an observation.

Things have moved on since the film Zulu! There are 15 cities in Africa with a populaton over5 million..

Desalination is a great process but expensive to install  and run. I. Often advocate it hee for a solution to Spains problems. A spin off would be counteracting the rise in sea level caused byclimate change! 80% of water here is used in agriculture. If the farmer had to pay a premium of an additional pound for every cubic yard of water imagine the price hike of fruit and veg.

One day in the ( distant) future we will have to subsidise poor countries. A bit like  South EasT England subsidising the rest of UK.

Last week around 200 boats delivered around 8000 young men mostly from sub-Saharan Africa onto the Italian island of Lampedusa, which has a population of around 6000.  :o  These young men will be dispersed around the continent and no doubt some will end up on the beaches of Northern France looking for a ride across the Channel.  ::)

This is invasion of migrants has been clearly very well organised and coordinated possibly by state actors? I've seen suggestions that Russia's Wagner Group are involved. If so it's clearly designed to destabilise Europe and it might well succeed.  The UK is spending about £6bn a year accommodating illegal immigrants in hotels etc, so god knows what Italy is spending and their finances are much more fragile than ours. Italian bond yields are rising so another European debt crisis cannot be ruled out and this time round will Germany bail them out?  ???

At some point Europe's politicians (including ours) will have to grasp the nettle and will have to physically stop the boats and turn them round in the Med and the Channel.  ::)

I think you will find that the EU is spending millions already in Africa trying to combat the problem.

I live in a hot dry 1 st world country. Water is a problem . Lots of towns rationed. Some only have water 1 am to 6 or 7 am. Crops are failing. Olive harvest is going to be dire this year. Olive oil has gone up 52% in the last twelve months. If you live in Africa, why would you not migrate to a rich country with jobs and water? It will never go away. I have no doubt Wagner are aiding the process. Lets not firget the West “ isnt whiter than white on things we have done and are doing right now.

Here is a prediction. Despite all the talk, Europe will never stop the migration, just tinker with it.
