All my 3 Elites have got their original screens fitted Dave, and all of them have a noticeable gap on the windscreen side of the vertical mouldings. You can see the metal retainer clips at the lower most edge adjacent to the screen. The gap disappears as the moulding passes through the 90 degree bend at the top of the screen, and at this point the moulding sits flush with the screen across the top of the screen.
Looking at the damage to the moulding on the offside, that certainly looks terribly misshapen and only a new moulding will rectify that.
The problem is that genuine mouldings are now hard to source, as are the retainers. They were part of a new GM screen (and I also assume aftermarket screens) but I have bought them individually too.
It does look however like some cannibal has been at the offside moulding on your car...
A good indication of how well a replacement screen has been fitted is how tight the upper 90 degree bend of the moulding sits against the start of the roof panel.
I have some photos of my screens as fitted from new , but I've been ununable to fathom out how to get photos on this site....perhaps pm me and I can WhatsApp them???
