General Car Chat / Sadly leaving Omega world
« on: 05 March 2024, 06:44:21 »
Well after some tough decisions I’ve decided to thin down my car collection.

One of which to go is my Omega MFL 1999 MV6 manual in Champagne (but it had the leather so looked good combo) with 58k miles 😔. Now sold to an enthusiastic younger chap. Just wasn’t using it and they need using, plus could see on horizon it would need more upkeep and paintwork.

Thanks for all help on forum over the years I’ve had - certainly learned a lot.

I’ve a lot of parts which I’ll have to put on eBay - mainly trim, door mirrors, boot lid and bonnet, MV6 boot spoiler and the infamous V6 coolant pipe (that welds itself to the thermostat housing and bracket that usually snaps).

I’ve less than 250 points on here at 241 so can’t list stuff here.

I’ll keep bobbing on forum as still love these cars.

Omega General Help / Horn not working - 1999 MV6
« on: 26 August 2023, 18:44:35 »
Evening

Guess there’s a solution somewhere before.

Neither horn button works on my 1999 MV6.

It used to but not anymore. ???

Changed the relay twice for 2 spares, fuse fine + swapped it just in case, tapped horns under car a few times to jiggle them into life and felt around the wiring which all seems secure under NS front.

Only thing I’ve not done is remove airbag and check condition of button electrics - but neither work.

Also the there’s no vibration/click from relay if you hold it whilst depressing horn buttons.

Other than check the button electrics is there anything else ?

I’ve not removed horns nor tried a direct feed to them but on my radar to do unless something daft

Omega General Help / 3.0 MV6 rough running after laid up
« on: 13 June 2023, 07:22:23 »
I’ve started using my 3.0 MV6 this month after long period of been off road other than MOT trips.

It’s very eager to start and runs fine majority of time.

There is old fuel in the car and I’ve added about £25 to the tank when I started running it.

It feels it goes down to 4 or 5 cylinders occasionally.

Thinking it could be the old fuel mix until it’s all been used up - I could then change fuel filter as maybe some muck in fuel tank/lines with it being laid up.

Just looking at the cheapest/obvious/easiest options first.

Could I guess be electrical (hopefully not coil pack - bummer to get to) as there has been no maintenance to the electrics for a few years now as always started ok.

It seems it occurs intermittently when engine under load

Omega General Help / 1999 PFL MV6 tyre brand when new
« on: 25 April 2023, 07:28:40 »
Just thinking of getting my MV6 taxed and on road

I need 4 new tyres and as car totally original thought I’d treat it to as near a match I could to original tyres when new.

What brand and style were they back then. Obviously won’t be exact as manufacturers enhance and change styles but would be good to know like 4 like

Omega General Help / Heater and blower working now on PFL MV6
« on: 08 January 2022, 19:27:07 »
You may recall I had issues with my heater and blower - fans working but no heat nor blowing on screen or floors.

After checking numerous areas with no apparent faults - I’ve replaced the 4 “round” button electronic control panel with a spare I had.

This has cured the problem and now have heating and blowers

The problem I now have is changing the instrument bulbs - twist/lock ones whilst the panel is out, need to get new bulbs to be on safe side but remember these absolute buggers to fit

Omega General Help / Boot getting damp
« on: 02 January 2022, 14:44:35 »
Over last few months, I noticed that the boot on my PFL MV6 was getting damp and white mould appearing on the O/S side carpet trims and damp to the touch under panel.

I’ve investigated - I recall when I bought the car the first time round in 2001, that it had been hit in the back but this had been professionally repaired by a body shop.

What I believe to have happened is the original factory sealant in the boot channel where it meets the rear quarter panel had obviously been disturbed during the body repairs and whilst on face of it looked ok - I think it has failed a moisture has got in. It was quite rusty underneath the joint too so have cleaned up area and sprayed a dinitrol rust/converter treatment on it. This has been then red-oxides prior to painting body colour.

I’ve run a strip of seam sealer around the joint, when it’s cured, I’ve red-oxided it and will brush paint body colour on top followed by a coat of lacquer.

I’m assuming this will cure the problem but are there any other known issues with this?

« on: 01 December 2021, 21:36:50 »

Anyone bought one that is waterproof/water resistant, breathable, scratch resistant etc

Seen Sealey and Kayme ones which seem ok

Omega General Help / Lack of heating - pfl 3.0 MV6
« on: 15 October 2021, 21:49:58 »
Took the MV6 out today.

Screen misty so full blower but nothing coming onto screen.

I know these are electronic selection so guess there’s something gone askew behind the selector button(s).

Is there a test to run or check I can make. I’ll have to remove stereo, ashtray etc  and remove the control panel.

Any pointers   ? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Well the alarm keeps going off every so often on my pfl MV6.

I have removed the power sounder thinking it was that but once activated with the remote central locking, it sounded again after about 15 mins. Obviously can’t keep the car locked as it goes off, sometimes in the night.

What could this be down to? Thought taking the power sounder out would stop it.

Incidentally I noticed that one of the horn buttons on the steering wheel doesn’t work.

Any pointers anyone?

Cars for Sale & wanted / Wanted - pfl 3.0 Elite - why
« on: 30 April 2021, 16:36:41 »
I’m looking for a stable mate for my pfl MV6 so thought I’d look for a pfl Elite.

Condition and mileage not too important. Most things considered

I’m located East Yorkshire, so prefer something than Dorset or Inverness

General Discussion Area / Wanted ad
« on: 30 April 2021, 15:27:43 »
I’m looking to put a wanted ad - apparently I need 250 posts but have 205, yet I see Newbies posting on the for sale/wanted?

Is there something I need to do (other than another 45 posts) to be able to access that section?
