Not wishing to be a Debbie Downer, but sounds like it could be a result of a bodged belt change :-\

Valve cover off and crank it remotely to confirm that cam is running true and go from there :-\

Never had a four pot or diesel one, last was a 2.8i Ghia X manual saloon in Nimbus Grey over Strato Silver.

The 2.3 went a bit better with a 2.8 carb on it.

Sounds like a sound buy though :y

Check very carefully for rot around the boot floor, across the bottom of the rear window, where the front foot wells meet the inner wing and across to the tunnel, above the diff... The rear mount can rot out, also the inner sills next to the rear subframe mounts.

If it's a 5 speed manual make sure that 5th works. That age requires LRP although Nick W might be able to recall the code for unleaded heads.

If it is the 2.8i and been sat for a while, expect some fettling. But given the woeful properties of modern fuels you can expect the rubber parts of the fuel system to be black cheese.

And from a maintenance perspective, the valve clearances need checking every annual service.

Fantastic cars though so should serve its next owner well. :y

What's the thermostat doing? Coolant temp at ECU sensor Vs radiator temp Vs evaporator temp...

When did the issue start? ie sudden climatic change or just refuelled or change of use of the car...

Have you cleaned/removed the screens from the VVT solenoids :-\

There was a TIS thingy about them clogging as they're too fine.

My omega has developed a fault too, it will only go in 1st or reverse. I’ve had enough now, anybody want to take it off my hands?
Manual swap it...
🙁 those days are over for me. On a brighter note it’s going to make way for another edition to my fleet  2011 XF 3.0D portfolio 😁😁👍
Are you drunk >:D

I thought the ATF was supposed to last the life of the car without the need to change it.

It is. But you'll notice that they don't define the life of the car.
They define it as the length of the warranty, and certainly no more than 100k miles.

Surprised noone has mentioned this...

Although given the make up of the local population they're probably happier voting to make an anti Semitic statement than acknowledge the blatant issues within their own community  :-X

I' m going to say no because that's the only valid answer.

Put another way, whoever fits an Omega belt without should stand by their work by replacing the engine free of charge when it fails.

If you use your bank card for purchases, always select local currency if you're asked. If you choose Sterling you can be charged your bank rate PLUS whatever fees/rates the vendor/their bank might use. Paying in the local currency prevents this.
