General Discussion Area / Jay and Dom
« on: 18 February 2021, 16:04:38 »
Avid upcyclers, on BBC 1 now. Dom is making a coffee table out of an old car tyre and some rope. Clean the tyre, wrap the rope around it, stick some legs and a top on it and, voila, a trendy coffee table.
I wonder where he's going to stick the fire safety label?

General Discussion Area / That stupid fickin government film
« on: 06 February 2021, 19:42:26 »
Everyone must have seen it. "Look them in the eye and tell them you're doing everything you can to prevent the spread of covid"."Stay home...blah..blah"  This afternoon there was hold up at a big roundabout in Barnsley. After queuing for about ten minutes we realised that a queue for MacDonalds drive through was the cause. So if it's open, that must mean you can drive there for a burger. If you are allowed, that must mean it's an essential journey...to MacDonalds...for a burger.

Telling folk to stay home to save lives, and opening a burger joint drive through? Fickin morons.

Barcelona FC are suing a Spanish newspaper, El Mundo, for releasing details of Lionel Messi's contract. £492,000,000 for four years. It's obscene.

General Discussion Area / For the very first time since lockdown...
« on: 31 January 2021, 11:32:12 »
I'm starting to get bored. I mean really bored, not just 'a bit fed up' with things. Yesterday I got the urge to drive somewhere far away, the urge for a change of scenery was almost overwhelming.  I didn't, of course, but it's not like me at all. It's only a state of mind, of course, but I think I need to make changes to my daily routine to stop it being so predictable.
I might start having my lunch at half twelve instead of twelve o'clock.  ;D

General Discussion Area / Mental health issues
« on: 28 January 2021, 08:47:43 »
1 in 5 young children have mental health issues, according to the children's commissioner, this rises to 1 in 4 in 16-22's. Parents, forced to look after their children from home, are suffering from mental health issues. University students, advised to attend as normal in September, then locked in their rooms, are suffering from mental health issues. Teachers, so worried they may catch the virus at school, have mental health issues. Frontline NHS workers have severe mental health issues.
We are a nation of fickin nutters, apparently. But what would I know? I have mental health issues.  :(

General Discussion Area / More covid weirdness
« on: 26 January 2021, 18:12:37 »
Wifey told me on Sunday night that everything smelled weird. Oh no, here we go again, last time her sense of smell disappeared altogether, but this time things just smelt horrible and different. She booked a covid test for 8 o'clock Monday morning and stayed well away from me. Her test came back negative at around 9 o'clock this morning so, overjoyed, she jumped up and went to work.
Now she tells me her sense of smell is really acute. At school she was commenting on other teachers perfume, her coffee smelt really coffeeish and even the school dinner smelt 'wonderful' (her words). So it looks like on Sunday night she was going through a transition where her sense of smell was returning to normal three months after covid. She was smelling things she hadn't been able to for ages. Good, but weird.
