Will you be going over to southern France to show solidarity?

A pressure group of more than 1,000 people has held rallies along the border and gone to court to try and re-open the road. They call themselves "Alberes without borders"

General Car Chat / I need a bigger car
« on: 03 November 2023, 15:38:49 »
Been looking at estates, but there's not many that take my fancy. I was think of a RAV4 diesel auto, they seem quite reasonable on price, if somewhat pedestrian to drive. Anyone have any experience of them on a day to day basis?

9.7% in the last five days. Anyone noticed the pump prices plunging? No? Oh well, maybe they'll knock a penny off a litre next month.

General Car Chat / Rishi's EV jitters
« on: 20 September 2023, 11:38:51 »
It looks like Rishi is going to increase the timeline for the ban on diesel and petrol cars...from 2030 to 2035. I don't think this will make any difference to me personally, but I do like a bit of schadenfreude. I will be smiling as the lentil munchers call foul and cry into their tofu salads  ;D ;D

General Discussion Area / It's going to be a long day

I'm driving down to Stansted to pick up my son and his partner this afternoon, a round trip of about six hours. They are arriving from Morocco and, as you've probably heard, there was quite a large earthquake last night. So I've been up all night trying to reassure them that everything will be fine, so I'll be a wee bit tired later  :(

They are flying from Ouarzazate on Ryanair, I just hope the flight goes ahead as I think they are both a bit shook up. Shook up.......get it? 😁

General Car Chat / Main dealer code read
« on: 07 August 2023, 12:56:13 »
Took wifey's car down to Perrys Vauxhall for a service this morning. The chap in front of me was trying to explain the problems he was having. The young girl behind the desk (whose fingernails were so long I thought there was no way she could type, but she did) said that they'd read the codes and see what's what. £141!!  :o
I'm sure it was 'only' £70 or so a couple of years ago.

General Discussion Area / Climate change, oil and gas, etc

I am sick and tired of hearing ecomentalists going on about how the world will end if we don't hit 'net zero' by 2050. It's utter shite in the context of this small island. Tony Blair, of all people, came out with a startling fact at the weekend: Last year, China released more CO2 into the atmosphere than the UK has since the start of the Industrial Revolution. WTF should we have to bear the brunt of higher fuel bills, compulsory heat pumps, clean air zone charges and those damned EV's when the most polluting countries just carry on as normal?
