General Car Chat / Re: Two MOT passes
« on: 07 March 2024, 19:28:11 »Vauxhall wanted to 'update' the software on my astra. They wrote to me, but it hasn't appeared on MOT certificates or the online MOT check. It's NOT the 10th till SundayThose were the good ol' days, when you'd get it MOT'd only so you could buy the tax from the PO....
unless you mean another PREVIOUS month or year
It was only when I tried to tax it (on the 1st March) that I realised it had ran out
Taxed & tested.
The MOT cert now has This vehicle has an outstanding recall ..... contact MB to arrange a free repair across the print off. I know it has ..... MB want to install their ''upgraded'' software on it

« on: 06 March 2024, 15:46:57 »Probably 50:50, as you have to run through the gears between each oil change. But 50:50 will still be an improvement.IIRC, over half of the ATF is retained in the torque converter. So you will only drain c.3.5 litres of oil first go.
So....in my understanding....first oil change gives a 50% ratio of old to new, second one gives you 75%, third one gives 87.5% and so on. So 10.5 litres of ATF will, more or less, give you an acceptable ratio.
I wonder how much old ATF is left mixed with the new stuff when you drop it in at Bodgit and Scarper service department.

First and reverse gears are all you need in Wales, thanks to your Dear Leader Mr Drakeford and his 20mph speed limit.

« on: 03 March 2024, 12:02:46 »I've just driven her around for twenty minutes and she has decided to behave perfectly again. An ATF change should sort it properly.
Smooth changes, all gears available in both manual and auto. She is 17 years old though and I am concerned her teenage episode' may be a portent of things to come.
I'll check out the cost of an ATF change. Local garage man charges £60 p/h INCLUSIVE OF VAT.

The very first thing to try when an auto box starts playing up is to top up the ATF if necessary.
