If there was a piss-up at No 10 last Christmas it’s very unlikely Boris organised it. Because, well, you know.  Rory Bremner

General Car Chat / McLaren
« on: 15 November 2021, 18:16:02 »
Reports out today that Audi have bought McLaren were swiftly denied by both parties, but it's well known that McLaren have financial problems having had to raise cash by selling and leasing back it's Norman Foster designed HQ in Surrey and a chunk of the F1 team.

Could be interesting to see what happens. One to watch!  :)

General Discussion Area / Train to Londinium
« on: 15 November 2021, 18:04:37 »
I have to go to Londinium on Friday and being an eco warrior I thought I'd save the planet and go by train!  :)

Had a look online and saw the prices! Fooooking hell!  £73.60 return! :o  It's only about two hours forty minutes to London Waterloo, so no wonder everyone drives!  ::)

Undaunted, I went to the station to see if there were any cheaper deals and the ticket fella is going to sell me 3 different tickets for the way up, from A to B, B to C and C to D, which will save me about £6.50.  :y  That will cover the days car parking at the station...  ::)

Alternatively, I might drive to somewhere ghastly like Woking and train it with the plebs from there.  :-\

Anyone have any knowledge of how it works please?  ???

For example, is it possible for a company to load it up with fake reviews?  :-\

Can I trust Trust Pilot?  ::)

General Discussion Area / Kindness
« on: 23 October 2021, 22:41:02 »
Generally speaking people these days aren't particularly kind, but today I was treated to a random act of kindness.  :y

I suffer with painful arthritic hips and when on a long drive often have to pull over to stretch and walk around to relieve the pain. Today I pulled into a motorway services and was stretching up against my car, when a woman in the next car started frantically knocking on the window and waving at me.

Not very kindly I thought Oh god, a mad woman!  ::) but to cut a long story short the lady called Gwyneth insisted on giving me a patch which she said would relieve my pain. I tried to politely resist but she persisted and then her husband turned up and they ganged up on me, so I capitulated, thanked them, took the patch and went on my way.

Later on the pain returned and so I thought I'd give Gwyneth's patch a try. Wow! Within about 20 minutes the pain had gone and about 8 hours later I'm still pain free. I even did the two and a half hours drive home later without having to stop!  :y

So if any of you old codgers have painful joints give this a try! I'll certainly be heading into Boots to get some on Monday!  :y

That's Gwyneth holding up the patch so I could take a photo. Thanks Gwyneth!  :y

...... said a US intelligence official when news broke that China had secretly launched a nuclear capable hypersonic missile that flew around the world in low space orbit and landed 20 miles or so from it's target.  :o

Worrying?  ???  :-\

Not really it missed!  ;D

General Discussion Area / COP26
« on: 14 October 2021, 14:13:25 »
I thought I'd start a thread on COP26 as I'm sure there will be plenty to chat/rant about!  :y

So for starters I've spotted this on Twitter!  ;D

COP coming to Glasgow. Leaders staying at Gleneagles Hotel & 20Tesla cars (£100K each) bought to ferry them 75km back & forth. Gleneagles has 1 Tesla charging station, so Malcolm Plant Hire contracted to supply Diesel Generators to recharge Tesla’s overnight. Couldn't make it up.

General Discussion Area / The Lights Are Going Out....
« on: 03 October 2021, 20:04:52 »
.... on the continent!  :o  ::)

Two snippets of information that I've seen today on my travels around the net are that Dutch commercial fruit, vegetable and flower growers who use huge greenhouses are scaling back or even stopping operations due to the high cost of gas to heat their greenhouses, which is making their businesses unviable.  Which of course may result in shortages.  ::)

Secondly a German coal fired power station is shutting down because it can't get enough coal! (Which should please Greta (blah blah blah) Thunberg!).  This is also happening in China where power cuts and rolling blackouts are already happening and the Chinese Govt. have ordered the power companies to buy as much coal as possible from where ever they can get it (Which will piss off Greta (How dare you!) Thunberg!), which is pushing up the price of coal.

I doubt that you'll see much about this on the BBC or other British MSM organisations TBH.  ::)

General Discussion Area / Irony Or Hypocrisy?
« on: 14 September 2021, 19:02:08 »
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) the leftist American Congresswoman (Congressperson?) goes to the Met Gala in New York, where apparently the tickets cost $35,000, with a dress emblazoned with 'Tax the rich' on the back to party with the uber rich and famous!  :)

Oh and she wasn't wearing a mask either!  :-X                                                                                                    ;D

General Discussion Area / The Greenies M25 Protest
« on: 13 September 2021, 20:53:17 »
Check out this article from the BBC website where there are about twice as many coppers as protesters just stood about letting these idiots cause massive disruption!  >:(

Why TF didn't the police just chuck them in the back of the vans a cart them off straight away so people could get on with their business?  ???  ::)

There's also a tweet in the article from Surrey Police saying a number of people were arrested, and I wouldn't mind betting that they arrested frustrated angry drivers who tried to move the protesters themselves.  ::)

Anyway isn't it an offence to obstruct the highway?  ???
