General Discussion Area / Good Old Fashioned Nosh!
« on: 27 November 2020, 20:22:33 »
For some strange reason I fancied liver and onions for me tea tonight.  :)

98p bought me a 512 kilo of pigs liver, 12p for an onion, 50p for a savoy cabbage and I already had a bag of spuds in, but a kilo of King Eddies was about £1.20 in Tesco's.  So cheap as chips, easy to cook, tasty and nutritious as well!  :y

It got me thinking though.... When I were a lad, Tuesday night was liver night almost without fail, but do people eat such food today?  ???  :-\

President Elect Biden says the USA will re-join the Paris Climate Agreement on day one of his presidency, and his Climate Envoy nominee John Kerry says that the Paris Agreement doesn't go far enough...  :-\

I suspect they'll spout a lot of hot air lecturing everyone, but won't do anything concrete to change Americans behaviour, like slapping a huge UK style fuel duty on a gallon of gasoline to force all those Good Ole Boys outa those big gas guzzling pickups and SUV's that they love so much!  ::)

We'll see how they get on!  :)

Reportedly Boris is set to bring forward the date from which the sale of new cars with an internal combustion engine are banned to 2030.  ::)

That's not long and what will they do about the second hand car market as I can see people hanging on to their ICE cars rather than switching to an EV.  Punitive taxes?  ::)

On the other hand EV technology has come along in leap and bounds in the last decade, so who knows what EV's will be like in 10 years time, but what about the infrastructure?  ???

Coincidentally (or maybe not) shares of Chinese EV manufactures rocketed last week, so maybe that's what they have planned for us and we'll all be trundling round in little Chinese electric shitboxes!   :-\  ;D

General Discussion Area / Covid Deaths
« on: 11 November 2020, 20:08:41 »
The total death toll of people who have died for any reason, within 28 days of a positive Covid test has now gone over 50,000.  ::)

Think about that statement for a moment and then wonder why the hell we are all swallowing this shite without question!  :-X  >:(

General Discussion Area / Fridge Freezer
« on: 10 October 2020, 19:30:26 »
Well we haven't had a white goods thread for a while so I though it was time we did!  8)

My 16 year old Hotpoint Iced Diamond is running too cold.  It freezes salads and veggies in the bottom draws in the fridge and turns everything to bricks in the freezer compartment.  I have to use a jackhammer to get ice cream out of the tub!  :o  ;D

I defrosted it in case the airways had got frosted up and blocked, but that didn't work and then put a new thermostat in it but that hasn't changed anything either.  :-\

It's constantly running with the middle of the fridge at about minus 1 degrees C and the freezer about minus 35 degrees C.  :(

Any ideas chaps?  or should I accept it's had a good life and drop it at the tip on the way to Curries?  ::)

You have to feel for the poor Yanks, who for their next President have to choose between an elderly chap who is fairly incoherent and thinks that 200 million Americans have died of the corona virus.........  ::)

And Donald Trump!!  ;D

Opps wrong section....  :-[  Perhaps one of those nice Admin Chappies could move it to the correct section please?  :)

Or maybe I need sectioning!  :-\  :D

Who's had one?  ???

Wonder what happens to the DNA that they collect at the same time?  ::)  :-\  :-X                                                                            ;D

General Discussion Area / Ground Source Heat Pump
« on: 12 August 2020, 21:04:55 »
I've seen a house out in the sticks that I'm kinda interested in which is heated by underfloor heating run off a ground source heat pump (apparently it heats the hot water as well) and a wood burner.  :-\  The bedrooms upstairs have conventional looking radiators which I guess are run off either the ground source heat pump or the wood burner, as there's no gas.  ::)  I did say it was out in the sticks!  :P  ;D

Anyone have any experience of these things?  ???

TIA!  :y

General Car Chat / Selling A Car In Covid Times
« on: 07 July 2020, 13:55:34 »
My friend has asked me to help sell his 90 year old mothers Renault C.l.i.o. and I'm happy to help if I can.  :y

But what do you guys think about selling a car and social distancing, as I'm not sure I fancy getting in a car with a stranger for a test drive at the moment.  :-\

I was thinking along the lines of agreeing the price, taking the cash and letting them take the car for a test drive on the understanding that if they bring it back in the same condition and with less than 5 miles on the clock, but they don't want it for whatever reason, they can have their cash back.  :-\

There are all sorts of snags and pitfalls with that though...  ::)

Maybe I should just man up and get on with it!  :)

Is it still the case that if you take your driving test in a car with an automatic gearbox, you can't drive a manual?  ???

General Car Chat / Fake Address
« on: 01 June 2020, 13:17:19 »
So the bloke who hit my Mondeo at Tesco yesterday has given me a fake address...  ::)

I guess there must have been witness's which is why he went to customer services and got them to call me out on the tannoy, so he could be seen to be doing the right thing.  :-\

The west London address he gave doesn't exist.  The postcode is for an industrial park and there is no road in the area with the same name, although there is a road with a similar name and postcode. :-\

He seemed like a decent chap and said he didn't want to go through insurance and said that he would pay for the damage to be repaired and at the time I didn't really consider that he didn't have insurance. You never know though....  ::)

The damage to my car is minimal and now I've cleaned it up, I have to look hard to see it so I'm not that bothered to be honest.

It's just strange and a reminder that often the people who you think are decent can turn out to be scumbags!  >:(
