General Car Chat / Breakdown Cover
« on: 30 September 2019, 15:56:36 »
The renewal came through from AutoAid and its gone up from £43.31 to £59.99 for any car cover, probably because I called them out and got recovered home a few months ago when the BMW's driveshaft popped out.  :-\   And BREXIT..... obviously.  :-X  ::)  ;D

A quick shop around and I've gone back to Rescuemycar.com for £42.79 for similar personal cover (national recovery etc) and because I went via TopCashback I got £9.88 cashback as well. So £32.91 for the year.  :y

The fly in the ointment with Rescuemycar is that you pay a £40 excess if you call them out, but if I have a years trouble free motoring I'm quids in.  :)

You've gotta shop around!  :y

General Discussion Area / Incitement To Violence
« on: 28 September 2019, 18:25:09 »
Nigel Farage has been reported to Gwent Police for incitement to violence after saying in a speech at a Brexit Party rally in Newport, that after BREXIT, we should 'take the knife' to the remainer civil service.  ::)

His response?  ???   "I should have said 'take the axe', which is a more traditional term for cuts."  ;D

General Car Chat / Volvo V70 2.4 D5 Oil Leak
« on: 26 September 2019, 18:52:50 »
As above, my 2004 V70 has an oil leak which appears to be welling up around an injector.  :-\

It's 100% oil, not diesel, and as far as I can tell there is a fitting kit available with clamp and seals for about £30, which I assume will solve the problem.  I don't know anything about injectors though and have never pulled one out, but it doesn't look too difficult.  :-\

Should oil be able to leak from an injector?  ???  :-\  ::)  ;D

Injector fitting kit linky.

Am I on the right track with this?  ???   TIA!  :y

General Car Chat / New Defender
« on: 10 September 2019, 23:08:56 »
The New Land Rover Defender was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show today and I quite like the look of it.  :y

Although it's certainly not a Defender in the traditional utility vehicle sense, if I had £40,000-£50,000 to blow on a big 4x4 I'd certainly consider it over the Discovery 5!  :)

Lord Opti will be pleased to hear that it can have a 400bhp  3ltr straight 6 petrol engine!  :y  With mild hybrid whatever that is?  :-\  ;D

Can't see many farmers buying them, but they'll be great for the school run!  ;D

General Car Chat / Adaptive Headlights
« on: 09 September 2019, 23:01:20 »
So all the talk on my rain sensor thread about adaptive headlights, reminded me about the fault on the Mondeo's  headlights.  ::)

When I turn the lights on, they do 'the dance' and move left and right with the steering OK, but after the second or third corner, I get a bing! and a message Front Headlight Malfunction.  The lights then become fixed until the ignition is turned off and the system obviously resets when the car is started again.

I had a close look inside one through the glass the other day and it looks like a spider has taken up residence in there.  ::)  Could his web be enough to upset the mechanism?  :-\

TIA!  :y

PS Feel free to chat about rain sensors!  :P  :D   ;D

General Car Chat / Rain Sensors
« on: 29 August 2019, 12:31:41 »
Am I right in thinking that rain sensors are embedded in the windscreen?  ???

The V70's screen developed a 10 inch crack in the top N/S corner at the weekend and it's booked in tomorrow for replacement.

I think the rain sensor is knackered as well, as the intermittent wipe has never worked since I've had it, so just wondering if I get a new sensor as well.  :)

General Discussion Area / Greenland
« on: 21 August 2019, 14:01:00 »
So Trump mooted the idea of buying Greenland from Denmark the other day, but Greenland said no, as did Denmark and some of their politicians weren't particularly diplomatic, one Tweeting that the idea was 'absurd'!  :)

Now it seems that Trump has got the right old hump about it all and has cancelled a state visit to Denmark before going to the G7 shindig in Biarritz.  :D

What a knob!  ;D

Of course there may be other things going on behind the scenes that we don't know about.....  :-\  ::)

General Discussion Area / By-Election
« on: 02 August 2019, 09:41:59 »
A win for the LibDems in the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election last night which cuts Boris's majority to one!  ::)

The question for me though, is why on earth when the sitting Tory MP Chris Davies was effectively sacked for fiddling his expenses wasn't he de-selected and a new candidate put forward?  :-\

Or would that just be common sense?  ::)  ;D

General Discussion Area / The T-Sock
« on: 26 July 2019, 20:48:58 »
Leo Varadker the Republic of Ireland's pipsqueak PM, has today been talking the the prospect of a united Ireland in the event of the UK leaving the EU without signing up to the WA & PD.  ::)

"People who you might describe as moderate nationalists or moderate Catholics, who were more or less happy with the status quo, will look more towards a united Ireland," he said.

"I think increasingly you'll see liberal protestants, liberal unionists starting to ask the question as to where they feel more at home.

"Is it in a nationalist Britain, that's you know talking about potentially bringing back the death penalty and things like that, or is it part of a common European homeland and part of Ireland?

"One of the things, ironically that could really undermine the union, the United Kingdom union is a hard Brexit."

Who's talking about bringing back the death penalty FFS?  ???  >:(  What a complete tosser!  ::)

But I tell you what, they are worried.  Desperately worried!  :)

General Car Chat / They're back!!
« on: 20 July 2019, 11:44:50 »
I had a little warning late last night on the southbound M5 near Bridgewater.  ::)

Driving at 'motorway speeds' in the middle lane as there were trucks up ahead and I saw a car come up fast behind me. Just as I was thinking "What are you doing" as he didn't pass me, the blue lights came on behind the grill!  F@CK!!  :o  So I slowed and moved into the inside lane expecting him to follow me, but he stayed on my rear corner for a bit and then buggered off!  Phew!  ::)

So beware!  After getting used to never seeing any traffic police on the motorways for years it appears they're back!  :(

I was lucky last night!  :y

General Discussion Area / Boris Row
« on: 23 June 2019, 22:10:39 »
The other day someone was quoted as saying that the only person who can beat Boris is Boris, and this may turn out to be prophetic!  ::)

The thing is about this row that has dominated the news for the last couple of days, is that the neighbours claim to have clearly heard what was said during the row and even supposedly recorded it on a smart phone app.

Now I often think that when things like this flare up that there is usually more to it than meets the eye, and it has been reported that the flat in Camberwell, where Boris is currently shacked up with his girlfriend Carrie Symonds is worth £750,000.  I'm not sure that it's credible that in a property of that calibre you could clearly hear what is being said next door, even if it is one hell of a ding dong.  :-\

So putting my tin foil helmet on I'm wondering if listening devices have been planted in the walls, hoping to discover something to discredit Boris with? ???  By who I hear you ask?  ???

Well, MI5 for starters.  I'm sure that the establishment would much rather see Jeremy Hunt in No10 than Boris, or how about one of the Remain groups?  ::)  The EU?  :-X The Russians?  :P  Donald Trump?  ;D
