Hi All,

My Mig has just gone over 200,000 miles, the last 60,000 of which has been mine and largely trouble free  :y  Although she's abit sickly at the mo... :(

I'm just wondering what other peoples Migs have done  :-? :-? :-?

General Car Chat / Best Breakdown cover?
« on: 19 April 2010, 13:25:21 »
Hi All,

I'm considering getting breakdown cover and have had a quote from Greenflag for £75 for Recovery, and The AA is £69 for Relay....

I'm leaning toward Greenflag as they use local garages and refuse to use the RAC as they were rubbish when I was a member a few years ago...

I was just wondering what other peoples experiences are and if anyone has any advice?

Cheers  :y :y :y

General Discussion Area / One for the builders/DIYers
« on: 12 September 2011, 15:03:07 »
Having new carpets laid in a house I've been working on for the last few weeks and whilst sweeping the upstairs floors, noticed 3 wet patchs on the floorboards  :(

Now my first thoughts given the wet weather recently was leak in the roof, but all the ceilings are dry and I've been in the attic and there no noticable evidence of a leak.  There's no central heating pipes near the wet patchs and the boiler is holding its pressure.  I've lifted some of the boards and the joists underneath are dry as are the underside of the boards......

Its been suggested that there's a cat getting in and peeing on the boards, don't know how though and I'm totally flummoxed....  :(

General Discussion Area / Underlay or not???
« on: 31 August 2011, 23:38:53 »
I've been doing up a house for the last few weeks, getting it ready to rent out and now I'm looking at carpets!! WooHoo!!!  :y

So here's the thing..... Do I spend the extra £200 odd on underlay? The carpet I'm looking at is feltbacked and I've put them down before with no underlay and they look fine, but they soon look abit 'flat'....

With underlay they feel nicer, but will they wear any better ??  :-/ Bearing in mind that they probably won't get looked after.....  ::)

I had a 'lightbulb' moment a few years ago when I hit on the idea of selling plastic manhole covers to councils, when there was a spate of them being nicked for scrap... ::) ::) ::)

Might have to revisit the idea...  :D

General Discussion Area / Mrs Browns Boys....
« on: 11 June 2011, 17:46:43 »
Last night I went to Bournemouth to see Good Mourning Mrs Brown, which is the stage show of the TV series Mrs Browns Boys starring Brendan O'Carroll.

Very very funny and very rather' rude!! ;D ;D ;D  If the show comes to your area I highly recommend it!!  :y :y :y : Unless you're abit prudish that is ::) ::) ::)

General Discussion Area / Legal Query....
« on: 10 June 2011, 01:08:49 »
I believe that in the eyes of the law, if someone gives you a cheque knowing full well that it will bounce, then that is fraud.....

What if someone gives you a cheque, leads you to believe all is well and then stops it? Is that fraud?

Thanks in advance to any Legal Eagles...  :y

General Discussion Area / My garden fence......
« on: 03 April 2011, 18:21:41 »
Since creosote was banned I've been painting my fence with various brands of stain, but none of it lasts very long and the creosote replacement stuff is expensive.....  :-/

So here's the thing... I've a few cans of old engine oil kicking around that's nice and black in colour and surely would seal and protect my fence nicely?  ::)

I'm abit confused about the environmental impact though.. :-/  On one hand it would be a nice bit of recycling! :y  but on the other hand would I be releasing all sorts of nasties into the environment?  :'(   Would it even be illegal?  :-? :o  Would the Greenies riot in the streets??  :o :o

Thanks in advance for for any comments!  :)

General Discussion Area / Digital TV picture breaking up...
« on: 16 March 2011, 11:12:23 »
Hi All,

Since the big digital TV switchover a couple of years ago, my TV picture is nowhere near as good as it was on analogue. Recently it has become almost unwatchable, the picture breaks up and pixilates and now and then the sound goes with a 'pop'! :(  The setup is nothing fancy, just a Panasonic LCD with builtin freeview.

I've checked the signal meter through the setup menu and that indicates a maximum signal strength and maximum quality..... I'm abit lost now though what to try next and thought someone here may be able to help.. :)  Thanks for any advice :y

Take a look at this! The lunatics really are running the asylum!!  :o :o :o

It would be nice to get a freebe, but these shares should be held until such time that the government can make a GOOD profit on them to help the national finances.... Maybe it's just me.. :-/

General Discussion Area / Have local councils become monsters......
« on: 25 February 2011, 17:15:55 »
So I had to get the bus the otherday... :-[   and I'm at the bus stop checking out the time table (produced by the bus company) when I notice a smart metal sign above the timetable advertising a text service 'timetable'.

'That's clever!' I thought, thinking that it would give me exact timing of the next bus, but when I tried it, it just came back with the times of the next 3 buses as per the bus company's timetable... :(

This service is operated by Devon County Council, and given that Devon is a big county, it must have cost a lot of money to set up (with all the signage etc) and administer.  I'm not sure what it cost me to use, the cost of a regular text message I think, but I very much doubt it's enough to cover the costs of the scheme.

Now given that this service just replicates the information freely provided by the bus company, I feel that it's a gross waste of public money  >:(  and I'm wondering if anybody else has noticed areas where the local council operates where it's not necessary??  ::)

General Discussion Area / Speeding tickets
« on: 15 July 2010, 10:25:45 »
I've just had 2 speeding tickets come in the post.  They are from the same place, on Tuesday and Wednesday last week and I was doing 39 and 43mph in a 30 limit area.   I'm not that familar with the area, which is no excuse I know, but its a dual carriageway!!!  >:( >:( >:(

I think its from a set of traffic lights that the dual carriageway goes through, and there is a camera there, I thought it was a camera to catch people jumping the lights!

I've a nervous few days now to see if any more tickets turn up.....  :( :(  Might have lost my licence already!!  :'( :'( :'(
