Ridiculous insurance costs
« on: 02 September 2020, 19:39:38 »

Evening

Has anyone got a good insurance company/quote

Obviously my NCD is used elsewhere on my daily motor.

I’ve tried Lancaster insurance today as my Mk1 Golf GTi is with them.

The Omega (1999 MV6) is over 20 years old but they came back with about £1,100 premium.
They quote that its not a classic etc.

Any members got a good insurance deal & who with.

Try AA insurance after checking what’s available on comparison web sites.

My 3.2 Omega is ‘just’ £350 PA with full comprehensive cover.  Others, no doubt, will also come across with far cheaper quotes than £1,100!! :P :P ;)

If you have no NCD, its never gonna be cheap.

That said, mine is around £200 for 20k pa, business use, protected NCD blah blah, but it does have full NCD on it.  Thats with LV, but previously Admiral were the same-ish

Putting a partner as a named driver often helps, if you haven't already done that.  And phoning around the multicar policy companies and see if they will give you some NCD on the 2nd car - sometimes you can strike lucky.

Thanks - I tried AA - £262 😊

Not sure of the ncd on the policy though - think they’ve used it against the MIG

It’s in for MOT tomorrow so once done that I can always cancel if it’s wrong

Sounds to me like they don't want to insure it for some reason. My Omega has maximum NCD and is sub £200,my V70 was sub £300 when starting from zero NCD and my 960 was also sub £300 when started with a zero NCD policy last year.As the V70 is now on 4yrs NCD and the 960 on 1yr NCD all are now sub £200.

Ahh, but you're an upstanding citizen, honest as the day is long, and law abiding.  Not riffraff like me (and presumably the OP) ;D

My renewal was £445, best alternative was £461 (but with Lloyd's, so that's never going to happen) but next best was well north of £900 if they even quoted.

Possibly something to do with the car being 'imported' as I have five years ncb  :-\

I just think they’ve included NCD on this which they shouldn’t as I’ll loose it on my daily driver 🤔

I needed to take the car to MOT today (which I know it will fail on) but at least I was covered for that round trip. I can always cancel it

I’ll see 😉

Its been quite a while since I paid more than £200 to insure a car. One of the few advantages of becoming old and learning to behave myself. :)
