even I use proper plasticiser and i'm a right tight arse   

not one of mine 

no lateral bracing on the trusses and trusses not tied to the brickwork

so £100 worth of wood and ironwork missing has proved quite costly 

fortunately no one died 

shame "building inspectors " and "mortgage surveyors" don't bother to stick their heads through the loft hatch and check such things ,but it's OK because they print a disclaimer on surveys

Doubt a surveyor would have noticed that with a quick peek through a hatch. Mainly because no one would be looking for it, it's the kind of mistake you just wouldn't expect to happen.

I'm not up on wokeness enough to know how to address a surveyor who doesn't identify as him or her

to look for major structural problems that may leave the building society or buyer with a pile of rubble

lots of things get missed on big sites by building control because they don't inspect every property as they go up, just a select sample  .
£500 to £1000 for a Survey that takes an hour at most and another hour back at the office to copy and paste all the disclaimers and press print , sounds like a nice little earner

A mortgage survey generally checks that the property actually exists, and that it broadly matches the description vis a vis size/number of rooms

2 types
1: mandatory ,will the lender get their money back if the borrower defaults  (which SHOULD include "is one of the gable ends likely to fall off ")
2: full survey ,which should pick up things like wiring problems ,plumbing problems ,damp/ventilation issues etc etc

though ultimately , the "builder" should have braced the trusses and tied the wall into the roof

Quite agree Dave. In my experience the pages of disclaimers are 10 times the size of the actual survey. My experience of surveyors has been dire, never finding the serious problems that exist.
