Just fitted filter same no. C40276C  as old one taken out but slightly different design  new one has rubber seals which makes it a tight fit and I think means that it fits one way only.

Their designed to only flow air one way...  ::)

Should have an arrow on it to indicate direction of airflow.

I think that we are maybe being a little hard on Crossland. The filter has a hinged plastic seal on the 2 side edges and a rubber seal on the base. The design would make it very difficult to fit one  way  as  the hinges have to fold into the filter housing on fitting Fitting the easy way  means that the darker side of the filter is facing towards the front or the car ie the first side to start filtration which I believe is correct An arrow showing direction is ok as long as you realise that this indicates air flow and not towards the front of the car,The seal achieved with this design is more positive than the loose fit of previous filters I have fitted.

Looking at several posts on the internet a fitting instruction in the box  would save a lot of guess work .

I've never known Crossland to have arrows, on any car.

GM filters have the arrow with the word 'airflow' next to it... Bit tricky to screw up, even for the work experience bod :D

On the GM ones, the open side of the flap faces upwards and they're an even colour on both sides.

I used to pay about a tenner for genuine carbon filters from my local dealer, so I have never fitted anything else.
