Our Golf estate just hit 100k last week. We do about 15k a year and will stick with it for quite a while. I think the key thing is servicing and maintenance. Striking a balance between only doing something when it “ fails” and having everything changed to line the garages pocket. Ours has DSG autobox. The recommended oil and filter change is 40k miles, I am deliberately doing it at 32k. Might be wasting money or avoiding trouble later.

I was surprised at how many older cars there were on the roads. Did you notice the 30odd astras at over 750,000 miles?  :o

Yes! You would need a comfortable well equipped car.

15 year old Signum has just 93000 miles under her wheels so is still just a pup.

Used car adverts from yesteryear would say things like......

Engine rebored at 40,000 miles and now uses very little oil.

Ziebart or Endrust from new so absolutely no rust after 4 years.

35000 miles from new drives like a dream and has never had the cylinder head removed.

My 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 has just clicked onto 100,000 miles was on 86,000 when I bought it in September 2019, hasn't used a drop of oil between services & has only cost around £1800 in servicing & repairs including a set of tyres . Got absolutely no intentions of getting rid till it dies.

Think I've only ever bought two cars[out of about 60 that I've owned]that had less than 100,000 on the clock when I bought them.

I bought 2 Senators & an Omega at around 100k.
The head gasket on the 24v Senny was replaced at 150k .... and that was about it other than routine servicing tyres etc
