Had fish & chips from the Magpie cafe in Whitby yesterday take out cod & chips twice £18.00, first time that I've never seen a queue there this was at teatime as well , probably getting too expensive for some.

I'm so Northern I'm practically Scandinavian. But brown sauce on fish and chips isn't something Ive ever heard of. Might try it as an experiment...

Oh - I thought brown sauce was used on everything oooppp North. Not keen on Mushy peas, and gravy on anything/everything is a filthy Antipodean habit.

Main problem was, I hadn't realised I'd run out of pickled onions, so I needed something a bit more piquante on the plate. TommyK is a bit sweet when there isn't anything sour to balance it, so the bitter/sourness of HP Sauce makes a good substitute. IMV.
