Interesting how there were lots of big fires around London yesterday, including one in Essex apparently started by a spontaneously combusting compost bin ( ) that destroyed several houses, yet the day before when it was only marginally cooler there weren't anything like as many fires.     

Grass bins do get hot as it decomposes. We did an experiment at prep school measuring the change of temperature in a bin bag of grass cuttings and it eventually started smouldering after a couple of weeks drying out/decomposing.

Any murmur of a fire brigade strike in the offing now they've had things to do

I doubt it at least two should have rotted away in prison. Incidentally JermyWhine and his brother went to the same school. And look how they turned out
