Final myriad of parts arrived for the manual gearbox conversion on the E24 . refaced flywheel to be collected on Friday and then we are under starters orders ...

That will keep you busy for a while, assuming you are doing the job yourself. Hope it all goes smoothly.

Winter project Steve . Will do it all myself except for the actual removal of the old auto box which is very heavy . A couple of the lads from my local classic car club will help. It's a rare detachable bellhousing 'box so easy to fit . The 'box condition is known so I'll only replace seals and front bearing every other component in the change will be new or refurbished.

And Albs , you're right it wasn't cheap but it'll increase the value of the car beyond it's cost and eliminate the dreary 3 speed auto driving experience . :(
And being rare gay gold in colour will be the holy grail of S1 E24's  ;)

F*cked something else today. Took the plenium off to inspect the nearside spark plugs, and on refitting realised the NS plastic bagpipes to plenium expandible tubey thing was split. £20 odd quid off eBay, so may be fixed early next week.

Also realised the A/C rad is 'bent' from the Bambi incident (which explains the loss of A/C), and I'm not convinced the main rad isn't damaged too. 'dangle berries'.

I can't help but laugh, I understand your pain all too well.  A simple job rarely is that straightforward.

Turns out I may have done the local drivers a disservice as apparently someone decided it would be good fun to go round kicking the door mirrors of various cars in surrounding streets,unfortunately this person had a slight "accident" when the owner of one of the cars saw and caught him.

Replaced o/s door mirror motor on the 960 so that's all good again[for now] :y then found the windscreen washer pump has packed in >:( it's definitely not the fuse as other things on same fuse still work,so got to check wiring to make sure power is getting to the motor before condeming that.

It's usually kids who've had half a shandy on a friday/saturday night  ::)

Police resources are even more overstretched now and if they are caught the CPS and court system do **** all  :-X
