General Discussion Area / Fixed my cruise for 60p!
« on: 03 October 2008, 14:00:11 »
My cruise broke a while ago - the yellow ribbon that connects to the bowden cable snapped!
Stripped it out of the car and dismantled it - one snapped stud on the inner wing and 2 sheared bolts on the casing  >:(

A visit to my local fabric shop found me a length of nylon ribbon exactly the right width and with no stretch in it which i stitched and glued to the broken end at the cable.  Rebuilt the unit and hey presto - job's a good'un

When was the last time your sewing skills were used to effect a mechanical repair to the car?

Result i think  :y

General Discussion Area / Do we need to keep quoting each other?
« on: 16 April 2008, 00:52:58 »
I've just been reading through a 4 page thread, and it is driving me nuts that everybody quotes the previous comment, so even just adding a smiley to the thread generates up to half a page of quote each time >:(

Quotes are useful at the right time and place but not required for every reply.

And yes - I do know what you clever bar stewards are going to do to my little rant now...........

You'll quote me wont you ::)

General Discussion Area / Who's going on holiday next week?
« on: 01 April 2008, 22:29:59 »
Who else is off on a Sun newspaper holiday next week? (I assume everyone else's kids will also be on half term / end of term)

I'm taking the three kids to a caravan park at Dawlish sands on monday - On my own  ::)

Less  than 1 1/2 hours from home and at £15 a night, what could go wrong?

General Discussion Area / I'm not dead - just busy!
« on: 31 March 2008, 21:10:27 »
Hi guys.
I've not been around for a while - no time as I've been fitting a new kitchen, had a conservatory installed by a bunch of tosspots, and now SWMBO has gone back to work after 10 months of maternity leave leaving me to stop myself from strangling 3 screaming monsters.

This of course means that in true "housewife " style I'm opening a bottle of Chardonnay at 11:30 and a bottle of gin at 3:00pm just to cope, so consequently I'm in no fit state to do anything other than bid on daft items on e-bay come the evening ;D

Seriously though, things are just flat out at the moment, so I'm sure I've missed some classic moments here.  Is Ronnie back yet? ::)

PS anyone got a V6 PAS pump for sale?

General Discussion Area / Hunting Venus
« on: 09 January 2008, 11:01:17 »
Can anyone else remember a one off TV program from about 6 or 7 years ago, shown at Christmas called "Hunting Venus"?  It stared Martin Clunes, Neil Morrisey, Ron Weasley's dad (you know, the one from the fast show) and Fifi flower tot (Little Northern lass, also Bubble in AbFab).
The plot was about a couple of fans who wanted to get their New Romantics band "The Venus Hunters" back together for a one off gig.  In the passing years, Morrisey had become a transsexual, Clunes a con man and one of the others a plummer.

Anyway.  The reason for asking is that I was listening to Ultravox's "We came to dance" the other night and it reminded me of the main song from this great film.  Decided to put my video copy on to watch.  Couldn't find it. :-?

Confession from SWMBO.........

Sorry I taped over it by accident.  I thought I told you. >:(

So does anybody have a copy?
Haven't been able to find it on 'tinternet.

Can anyone help a poor New Romantic sad act? :'(

Please (with frilly cuffs)

and maybe some blusher

General Discussion Area / New car first fix
« on: 01 December 2007, 19:19:53 »
Ok.  So I picked up the new car yesterday.  Cambelt 5K overdue and battery totally goosed.
First thing this morning I was waiting for the parts counter to open at the stealers.    £200 later I had bought all the parts to fix all of the above.
What did I fix first?

General Discussion Area / Has the value of Omegas dropped lately?
« on: 30 November 2007, 00:29:43 »
I'm in the market for a new barge at the moment, so I'm keeping a close eye on e-bay.  Does anyone else think that V6's are not holding their value?  Petrol prices are not helping but there are quite a few I've been watching that haven't made over £1200 for early facelifts thus not reaching reserve values.

I've got a bloke with an early facelift elite 2.5 who wanted £2500 for a buy now!  I reckon in the current market £1750 would be more than enough.
