Someone stole my Bose sub?
« on: 10 October 2010, 16:54:04 »

At least I'm guessing that's what is meant to be behind the flap on the nearside of the boot in the estate; according to the TIS, anyway.

But what I actually have is:

Excuse the terrible photo! What's in there is a wiring bundle with a large white plug on the end (on the right), two brown wires in a bundle that have been cut off (left) and a section of red wire joining two (at each end) black/blue stripe wires together..

Can anyone identify the connections? I'm most intrigued what that red bit is doing in there, perhaps a patch to some standard wiring? It's hard to see where it disappears off to..

I can't see the photo as I'm at work and they are blocked. Could it be someone has bypassed the sub so they can fit a standard head unit and speakers?

If they did then they put the NCDC2013 back before they sold it (which is entirely possible I suppose!) .. and all the speakers work etc - I'm guessing they wouldn't if the amp et al was bypassed?

They would, the bypass is for the amp so the speakers would work un-amplified if that makes sense!?

Easiest way is to pull a speaker as they will be marked at 2ohm if they are still the bose speakers ;)

I dont think the red wire is anything to do with the sub.

The sub has a 4 pin connector with green/white & brown/white wires. These run back to the amp which on the opposite side of the car.

Do you need a sub, I think I might have one somewhere?

errrr... i'm not convinced you ever had a sub.....

the reason is the flap that cover's the cubby hole....

it's a std hole cover, not the sub cover.....     implying, if the interior lining is original, that there was never a sub there....

(based purely on my bose equipped elite estates, both of which have had a sub....   )

Hmm maybe I didn't.. in which case, what are all those wires (especially the cut-off brown ones) meant to go to  :o

Was your actually built as an Elite?

Only Elites have Bose, it was standard on all from '98 MY onwards and not an option on other models.

Do you have a Bose amp in the cubby hole opposite - i.e. behind the CD changer?

As far as I know it was built as an Elite - it has all the relevant badging, self levelling suspension, climate control etc etc.. there's 'something' behind the other cubbyhole (I assume an amp, doesn't have any openings for a CD changer), and the NCDC2013 that displays "Bose" on the GID when it starts up..

I don't know any other way of checking, really..

Here's a pic of the sub in my old mini facelift Elite estate.

Other side was the cd changer and amp behind that

Aha - cheers Pete!

So .. I definitely have the amp (black metal box), but no changer, and the sub is definitely not there ;)

Suppose I should figure out if the amp is actually wired in, though!

That makes sense - I was going to say, I've got the 4 CD mag in the head unit, although a 6 or 10 CD unit in the boot would be nice, too.

Well, it would be nice only if it could read CD-Rs.. the perils of buying all your music on iTunes - no physical media :-/

besides, get an iTrip or something similar, and use your iPod/iPhone to feed the radio....

for MOST people that's perfectly acceptable, especially if you set the quality settings higher when setting up itunes conversion and storage....

personally, i'd rather use a CD,   but that's not always possible....   but using AAC at high bit rates,  does sound better than Mp3.    on a like for like set up, typically the apple system sounds one stage better than std Mp3..    eg 160 bit AAC sounds as good as 192 bit  Mp3...

so it's a more efficient system in terms of storage space for a given quality level....

i'd rather not use anything that reduces data ....  but sometimes cannot avoid it.

much better idea than using CDR's in any Omega Stereo......
