Selling a Caravan
« on: 09 May 2014, 21:20:18 »

So GrandmaT is selling the caravan she had, with the sad loss of GrandpaT there is no longer any need for it. She has got a dealer to sell it for her, but they went ahead without me having a chance to go through the details.

Basically they are selling it on her behalf, but of course take a wacking great big commission. I called a few dealers around here, but none were too interested.

Of course there is eBay, but that has it's usual issues. But it may come to that, if it has too.

So I'm looking at other options for her to get the best value, as it's a very new 'van and looking to get as much money for her as possible.

Any suggestions?

Going through the same dilemma myself Tunnie. The difference between what the dealer has offered for it and his view on a private sale is £2K.
I would love to sell mine private as the buyer would benefit from the complete works, whereas the dealer will be getting just the van and I'll have to sell the rest separately.

Good luck.  :y

Not a lot of difference between selling a used caravan and a used car to be honest Tunnie.  I've recently sold a car and a motorbike on Gumtree and in both cases they sold quickly and I got what i wanted. The main advantage being that Gumtree is free!  :y

Loads of Caravans on a Gumtree here and they seem to turn over reasonably quickly  :y

A lot of adverts on Gumtree appear on Autotrader as well so it looks like people are obviously trying to cover as wide an audience as possible.  :-\

Bearing in mind that they contain twin gas bottles that's really not a good idea.  ;) ;D

Thanks all, take on board comments. I've told her if it does not sell this month, as she has just renewed it on a monthly basis with this dealer, I'll sort it.

I was planning to tow it back to hers, clean wash it ect, pictures. Then put up some adverts.

Thing is, as it's a fairly large amount, I was wondering of other options. Always put cars on eBay autotrader ect, but they are all around the £1k ish.

Thanks, another good shout. I think it will be a case of good photos and spamming as many sale sites as possible  :)
