I've been a naughty boy but the sun was out and the girls were all looking pretty so...... ::)
-
Come on then, tell us what it is!

He loves to tease. :)
-
Well boys, she does not run on derv.
-
You know how it is for us types who always need to have an appropriate adult with us so we don't do foolish things. :)
I only went out for a pint of milk and some beer but the nice man said " take her for a test drive, no need to rush back, take your time, an hour will be fine"
So I did.
-
Not diesel, went for milk and bread..... You've bought an old electric milk float..... ;D
-
I honestly couldn't care less ;D

I'd happily own a Tesla Plaid or Tesla model 3 if they were cheaper to buy and the PP9 took it further. ;)

It's a car forum, a place where people talk about cars, even dreary cars like an Astra derv. ::) :)

But you don't talk about cars, you play childish games. I'm getting a new car, kids, and you'll never guess what it is. Go on, go on, try.......... ;D
It'll be a car, nothing important :P
-
Unless it's an omega, that would raise a few eyebrows.

Nope......although I 'd like one of the last 3.2 Elite if they have not been destroyed by the dreaded tinworm.
But same country of origin.

Yes, Rae......it's ripe for a bit of mapping. I have to say I'm surprised how quick it was even in standard form. The B58 straight six is a good lump.

4.3 seconds to 62, won't this interfere with your pacemaker?
BMW are a bit conservative when it comes to 0-60 mph figures so it will actually be quicker than that. Most of the road tests with the proper equipment show them to be around 3.85 seconds. This is the type of car that attracts gentlemen in their thirties so should suit Opti down to the ground. :y

I know, I like to pacify him. :y He must have received the letter by now from his doctor saying that he’s reached that age where he must buy a Honda, and this new purchase is his last hurrah. :y

Yep....that's me.
I identify as 34. :y
Considering it is a mere 'M lite' car and not a proper 'M car' I was surprised just how accomplished it was. I always lusted after a 3 litre Capri as a boy so perhaps this is a sort of modern day Capri.
After all they both are both 3 litre with 6 cylinders. Both are a 2 door coupe. :y

You can easily lose an hour on these things. ;D
I tried to be 'reasonable with options'.
Pro Pack.
Thundernight paint.
Aluminium interior trim.
M adaptive suspension.
These options should help with resale. I hope.
I actually wanted a used car. One about 2-3 years old but the prices were so close to that of a new car that it didn't make financial sense. The used car market is currently insane. :-\

According to the documents estimated delivery is 30th September 2022.......but may be later.
So about four and a half months if all goes well. Apparently the car is being made /assembled in Mexico. I do hope my car is not being thrown together a a lazy Mexican fast asleep under a sombrero for most of the day. ;D :D

It was you who purchased a 140i with the same B58 lump.....do I have that right, Jimmy?
-
You do indeed.
I couldn't fault the engine or 'box, it was a superb combination, mine was 2wd, rather than the xdrive in yours. I was sorry to see it go, but it did have to go.
My only criticism of the car (other than the failure that led to it's return) were the rock hard seats. However even looking at the video you posted, it's clear that the ones in the new car are all together better items. And no doubt your ar$e is a good deal smaller than mine, which will help ;D.
I was very stingy when speccing mine (auto box, pro nav, heated seats) and kept it to around £32k, which was a bargain for the performance on offer. >:D

Make sure the door cards are removed once you have it , just in case some drugs have been stashed..😁

I imagine a 2WD M140i is a good 200 KG less weighty than a 4WD M240i so performance should be similar despite the extra 30 BHP
£32000 is a steal....I almost bought a M140i Shadow Edition in black a few months ago.....but £28750 for a 2019 car with 25000 miles under it's wheels was silly money.

They were stupidly priced for a time, there was a dealer who was doing 3 pedal editions with very sparse options for about £28-29k for a six months or so. Truly ridiculous, as long as you could live with the same interior as a £15k 116d.
I look forward to hear how you get on with the 240i, I think the AWD will be a substantial asset, I found putting power down to be the biggest challenge in the 1er.

I took a trip to Hemel Hempstead with the Brother in law yesterday to buy a 2011, 2.9 Boxster 987.
Georgeous car in metallic blue with tan interior, and goes like a stabbed rat.
He paid the £15,500 in cash.I should have been a bricklayer. ::) ;D

Far from my first port of call, Tig, but two Tata dealers offered £1000 and £1500 less than WBAC actually gave me, and £2000 less than the original offer from WBAC.
I 'may' have achieved another £1000 with a private sale but then I'd have to put up with every Tornado test pilot who happened along......most of whom were just tyre kickers.

I really rate the Boxster and if you're not bothered by the 'gay hairdresser image' ::) ::) ::) they are a great driving machine. :y
Anyway....I hear that these days you don't have any hair. >:D 8) :D ;)

Bald as a gooseberry me. :)
They are indeed a great drivers car. Handling is just superb with the engine in the middle, rather than the old Porsche habit of hanging it out the back.

Possibly needed just a touch more Ooomph. :y

When you get your new car Opti have a quick look at the handbook. It explains in great detail how to use launch control, and then adds a warning telling you that excessive use of this feature causes excessive wear on the transmission and engine components. No shit Sherlock. ;D That’s why with a car like this it’s nice to go brand new. :y

I would agree with that. Mines a 2.7 (217bhp) and could do with a few more ponies ideally, but for the price I cant grumble.
The 2.9 has 252bhp, which seems to make quite a difference.
Not in the same league as a lot of modern cars of 400+ bhp, but more than adequate for most situations, and most of them are heavy old buses anyway.

Plus it’s basic design is to be sprightly anyway 👍

It's comes with a 3 year warranty. I wonder if BMW would delve into the telemetry and see how many 'launch control' starts had been actioned before agreeing to warranty work.
I'm pretty sure Datsun check this on their legendary GTR.

Unless there's some kind of exclusion in the warranty, it shouldn't make any difference if you've done it twice a day and three times on Sundays.

so some of us have standards and choose wisely :D

Apparently they are made in China....Mexico, Romania, and a couple of other slave wage countries. Nothing Bavarian about the way they are put together these days. I think those days are gone. :-X

I have to say I am surprised at the choice, always had you down as a man who liked a nice arse which the BMW definatley doesn't have, at least its not got the hideous front yet :y
I agree the arse end is not the best, but it does look better in the flesh than in the photographs. :y
I don't think the Germans know how to do a beautiful arse.....that is probably best left to the Italians. ::)
Besides, you can't see the outside from the interior ;)

Yep, Al....and the interior is quite a pleasant place to spend a couple of hours.
Things I'm not liking about the new car experience are.
First year road tax... £945.
First registration fee. £55
Delivery charge........£850.
No spare wheel. :-\

It would be hairy
Audi R8 is a great example, the germans do the looks and the italians do the running gear, it's the Ital all over again.....hence why you see so many on recovery trucks
-
(Un)reliable or not, I still think a gen 1 R8 with manual gearbox would be a sound investment, if you like that sort of thing...

The M240i does well considering it is a humble 'M lite' against a full fat RS Audi and AMG Merc.
£10,000 cheaper than the Audi and £15,000 less than the Merc. :o :o :o

On the road there would be absolutely no difference in speed and the beemer would handle much better than the other two.

Why are you being nice. Do you want something?... ::) ::) ::) ::) ;)
As for paying £62,000 for a car with a 'tuned to the knackers' 2 litre 4 cylinder engine ( Mercedes).....well f*uck that. :-X

I've just noticed that 3 'new model' M240i X-Drive have trickled down and are for sale with delivery mileage. All are being offered at main dealers for £12000-£18,000 over full list price. It's insane.
I've already signed on the dotted line and paid a £1000 deposit so they'd better not try and move the goalposts.
It won't last....as more become available the prices will drop.
I seem to recall something similar when the new Range Rover was introduced and some people were unwilling to wait for delivery. :-X

Two new Purple M240i’s sat in North Oxford BMW garage. No price tag yet, and I didn’t want to ask in case he asked me to sit down for a chat. ;D
Years ago I had a wish list of cars that I’d love to own but couldn’t afford. Now I can afford most new models on my wish list I don’t want then. :-\ Strange how things change. All of my later BMW’s have done 0-60 mph in around 4.6 seconds and hit 155mph in the blink of an eye. Being diesel, you can average 35/36mpg around town and a thoroughly respectable 50mpg on a long run. I never use launch control and I can’t remember the last time that I had an adrenaline rush where I felt the need to hit 155mph. ::)
There’s no need for people to own such fast cars and it should be stopped. ;D ;D

Yeah, right. 'dangle berries'. ;D
Speaking of Beemers, I was round your neck of the woods yesterday. What's the storying behind that Beemer wedged in the side of the house between the A418 roundabout and the Towersey roundabout?

They seem to be a bit vague on that, just a little report that is incorrect. The report says the bmw went through the brick wall protecting the owners property and clipped a tree, causing the driver minor injuries. As you’ve witnessed, no mention of the flcking great big hole in the owners house where you can see completely inside their sitting room. They’ve set up traffic lights but I can’t see any Acrow props supporting any brickwork. :-\
You should have popped in for a cuppa. :y

I think they'd have been too busy putting the living room in order to be making tea for Jaime.

I suppose it was a bit early to expect them to making him a cuppa.
I did of course mean pop to my house for a cuppa but you already knew that. ;D
