Any Rover 800 knowledge on here?
« on: 09 August 2010, 13:21:10 »

Just been handed a L reg 2.0 Turbo Vitesse Hatch to play with, its been in storage for the last 8 years, the guy just wants rid of it as He needs the space, Its too good a nick to scrap, the guy blow the HG on years ago then spent the best part of a grand getting it fixed (by some so called rover expert) before running out of money and losing intrest.

The Car runs but is pretty gutless, feels to me like its in limp mode?, do they do that?, anyway of me reading the ECU?, any pointers, could be something simple thats been left off on rebuild, just a guess.

Apparently the Car ran sweet before he did the HG in.
 :-/

Edit:, just to add the Head was skimmed and new belts and bits fitted etc, so assuming the Repairer did that right.

To my knowledge no limp mode.....

Is it gutless accross the range ? Had a 600ti a few years back that i drove for 30 miles and it was similar but suffered a blown turbo.

600ti and 800ti are same lump.

there is a three pin lead between the battery and the bulkhead which is where to plug in a code reader with a suitable adapter lead,as far as I am aware you have to use a code reader as there is no self test. That motor kicks out 180 bhp when working right and is pretty lively

if its a smooth flatness, id check the turbo is intact, then the hoses/intercooler pipes.

could be 180 or 200 hp depending on ecu fitted. Check vac pipe to map sensor they tend to get clogged with crap and cause crap running.

Difficult to tell wether its a 'flat across the range' type guttless as can only drive it in the yard, no tax or test, but will have a poke about with the turbo bits this weekend.

if you whip the turbo pipe off between turbo and inlet manifold then rev engine it should blow a near gale out of the pipe if the turbo is spinning up

That'll be a 180 BHP. Later ones are classified as a sport. The first sports (1996) had full leather but the later ones had the Recaro interior fitted. I would check that the waste gate is connected. Difficult to get to as it is behind the turbo. You could try resetting the throttle switch, can't remember the sequence but can be found on Rovertech. Also check that all hoses and pipes connected to the turbo are connected and clear.

A while since I had my last Vitesse but they are great cars and much maligned.

They are prone to CTS failure, best of british car parts used to do them for a tenner.

This ones a black manual hatch with Half leather Recaro Sport seats so no idea what it is, but again thanks for the pointers.
