Omega General Help / Re: Following HG change
« on: 16 March 2008, 16:55:05 »
Cheers for the responses everyone

My car currently idles just under 1k which it has always done, even before the HG job.

Think I will see about looking at the ICV and breather system.

It may help. :-/

Omega General Help / Following HG change

I still have a few concerns which the garage who did the work imo should iron out.

Cold starts and starts in general the car sits at just under 2k revs for a short period and I have noticed the revs do not drop freely takes a few second for revs to drop to just under 1k as they should when idling

Whether this is just me being picky I'm not sure.

The only thing I havent done is soaked the ICV in carb cleaner in a while and checked the breather system but I should have thought the garage would have done something with this.

Any Ideas on what to check for?

Omega General Help / Re: Steering wheel shakes at 50mph +
« on: 06 March 2008, 22:27:10 »
Cheers for the responses everyone

I called the garage who did all the work and they had a mobile tyre fitter come to me all four wheels were rebalanced and now the car drives nice no noticable shakes from the steering wheel so fingers crossed its gone for good.

My only concern is I took the car to a garage just up the road good old STS tyre pro's and had a full geometry and for what ever reason  when I hold the steering straight it drifts towards the kerb now I thought this should correct this.

Take it back and tell them about the vibration and they should rebalance your wheels for free.

I had some fronts done recently and went back 2 weeks later and found out 1 was 20grams out.

Afterwards the vibes were gone.

Cheers for all the help.

Back to the garage it goes. :)

Daft Idea but could tyre pressures cause these sorts of problems?

If it more like ly the wheel balancing the it will have to go back to the garage who did the work.

Omega General Help / Steering wheel shakes at 50mph +

I have finally got the omega back on the road and whilst I had the HG failure repair I had 4 new tyres fitted.

Yesterday I took my car to STS and had a full geometry done as the steering wheel alignment was all wrong.

Was driving back from my Girlfriends tonight and the steering wheel began to shake at around 50mph+ not violently but noticable.

Any Ideas on what could be causing it.

Omega General Help / Re: Head Gasket failure
« on: 29 January 2008, 18:38:53 »
Hi folks

I have been pricing up and my local motor factors can supply a HG set and bolts for roughly £50 + vat, still thinking vx kit.

Now I don't have any worries about removing the head but servicing looks a little scary regards removing and replacing valve stem seals.

Can anyone give me any pointers the car is still sat and now I want to get it sorted.

Is there a guide for removing valves and changing the seals etc.

I know I will need a valve spring compression tool but which to get I'm not sure so any recommended would be much appreciated.

As you can see my time on here is limited at the moment so replies from me may be here and there so to speak.

I can now confirm the HG has gone or on its way I have been losing coolant like it going out of fashion the oil has turned to mayo evident from the dipstick and the oil cap and when looking at the cams is coated.

As said all help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Roy

Does anyone recommend any of the ebay sellers for Head gasket sets or is it Genuine kit all the way.

I am toying with the Idea of using ebay to source parts but not sure of the quality.

If anyone can make any recommendations it would be much appreciated.

The car itself has done 149K and since before xmas it has had a water issue as before xmas I had to fit a new thermostat as this was not opening properly

Car over xmas was running fine and drove well too and from London on Boxing day the next day is when my troubles started.

Lumpiness rocky starts and with the coolant loss has caused me to leave it on my parents drive ever since.

I have done a couple of bits to it since but has not been use

Last weekend I changed the Injector seals as there was a ticking from the top which is when I checked for the signs of head gasket failure and found mayo on the dipstick and oil filler cap.

Looking to do the Head gasket on my omega asap just waiting on funds to become available.

The Engine itself has not been heavily used since just after xmas and last weekend I changed the injector seals decided to check the dipstick and the oil filler having checked previously all was fine but this time both are coated in mayo.

I have already done some investigating and a full HG from Vx including Piston Rings is roughly £210 all in

Is it recommended to change the piston rings as I'm hoping it will give it abit more life.

All help would be much appreciated :y

« on: 09 January 2008, 09:02:05 »
I know the 1st code refers to lambda but the 2nd code is lambda heater can anyone tell  me where this is?

I am fitting a new lambda sensor tonight but I'm curious is the lambda heater part of the sensor in some way?

Omega General Help / **Update** Possible early tensioner failure
« on: 06 January 2008, 14:30:43 »
Well I can confirm the gates kit is not all that the new kit was not tensioning properly so I took the kit back

Before I fitted another kit I ensured the camshaft bearing bracket caps were torqued down properly as all the noise appeared to be coming from the left hand cam.

Shelled out £98 for a genuine vx kit from my local dealer fitted and now the car is running.

Although it is still a little lumpy on start up tick over is fine.

Discovered I am getting white smoke but this is not excessive like it was and when moving a long I now have no white smoke so I am going to be doing the injector seals for piece of mind just waiting on the seals to come into vauxhall.

I also discovered yesterday that the engine management light has been on and it comes on intermittently did the paper clip test I get one code of 0130 Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen (HEGO) sensor which I'm presuming is the lambda sensor shall be trying my spare to see if this fixes the problem and clears the code.

All in all its been a busy few days but at least now my car is driveable again.

Just thought I'd update & thanks for the help :y

Thankyou guys for the responses

The gates kit is the only kit I can get my hands on today for fitting tomorrow.

Current state of my car is its cams are locked and the bottom crank is set to TDC and the waterpump appears not to have moved.

The waterpump still looks in pretty good condition with no visible leaks or damage.

Shall hopefully be fitting the kit tomorrow and finding out the fate of my car.

Not sure the waterpump needs doing what with only doing 15k tempted to do it for piece of mind.

Abit gutted as the kit on there was supplied is from autovaux and is genuine GM supposedly.

Does anyone have any bad experiences of gates kits my local motorfactors have a kit on one side for me £78 inc vat so not too bad.

Edging my bets but worth a go
