very pleased with my new omega..
« on: 19 February 2007, 22:27:56 »

but as i only have 1 key decided to enquire about getting a spare remote k-ey sorted.
as i thought i had the key code i went to a local guy who cuts keys/programmes etc.
i found out that my key code card was for the lock wheel nuts- bugger.
asking vx how much for a spare i was told £120+.
my first question is- is there a vacancy to be a shareholder in vx and secondly how can i get one done cheaper?

I remeber the local stealer did a key for me for about £45 a few years ago including a bit of magic with his tech2.  I needed the car pass for this.

A new car pass should be £10 to £20 I think - never got one myself.

I bet TB will be along with his wisdom in a mo - but I'm surprised at £120

Hmm. Only got a single key with mine and had been meaning to enquire.

120 quid sounds a bit steep though. I'll ask around this end and meanwhile if anyone knows of a cheaper way....

i know, i just wanted to get it done quickly then found out a cheaper garage could have done it for half of that -with all the correct tools.

I seem to remember being quoted a similar price when I was looking for a replacement key ... I ended up buying a replacement housing for the original key off fleabay for about a tenner and swapping the bits over instead  :y

I bought a blade already cut from via  ::) a dealer for £28 for SWMBO's Astra and the fob part was aquired  ::) from the same place. But even so I think the fob is still 'only' around £30 plus about the same for programing

yes - there are two different types at least, one made by "megamos" - it might say it on the back of the key, but if mine did it had rubbed off - does say it on the circuit board inside though, just below the battery. The other type is made by delphi - it says this on the back of the key - but there's even two types of these, one with and one without the red LED that lights when you press a button ... not that that matters much ... neither of these two say anything on the circuit board (that I spotted anyway).

Go for the same make and hopefully it'll then only need coding to your car ...

Phoenix in Wimbledon quoted me £140+ and he had this sort expression on his face at the time  ;D

I bought a blank from Lithuania off eBay, and a used fob off eBay. Now I just have to buy a carpass and convince TB to programme it all up for me  ::)

I can get car passes for 15 quid all in......(you will need this to programme the remote and transponder to the car)

Then get a remote section off ebay.....

Then get a blade cut by a local lock smith, get the transponder and remote programmed to the car and its job done....

Ahh, small world! I wasted many an hour sitting in the park when I was working from home. I'm up the hill in Four Marks now actually. Not the centre of the universe but I like living there.

that sounds a very good price for a car pass, I'd like one. Does it have the radio number as well ?
