Wide angle NS mirror
« on: 11 October 2007, 18:42:01 »

 Ey up

On my motorway drive home, I was contemplating fitting a blindspot mirror, seeing as how the one on the OS is hugely effective. Now, I don't want one of those daft circley ones, neither do I want anything clipping on - so I'm down to two options.

1- Get the drivers side mirror for a LHD car (assuming they have the same lined-off convex part as RHD cars... and is my passenger mirror heated?)

2- Get a wide angle mirror fitted onto the A-post, a la plodwagons... but I'm just about discounting this on cost basis.

 Thoughts, chaps? :D

i would go with option A, if you have a helpful dealer they will get one for you, but expect to pay about £30

Helpful dealer? When I went in to see if they'd be able to source an Omega, they looked at me like I was carrying a vial of anthrax! ;)

OK, three more questions (sorry!) -

1- if mine is heated, will it have the symbol on the glass?
2- if not, how do i tell, apart from getting up early tomorrow? :)
3- if mine isn't heated, is the wiring already there?

Regards
Pete

1- if mine is heated, will it have the symbol on the glass?  Yes i beleive so
2- if not, how do i tell, apart from getting up early tomorrow?  activate the heater rear window, put your hands near the glass and feel itf it gets warm
3- if mine isn't heated, is the wiring already there? Possibly not, so it might be worth asking if there is a non heated one available

Getting the old one out isnt that hard, it is a case of using a metal ruler and sliding it behind the old glass and pulling (gently)

this heated mirror thing, i was under the impression mine wouldnt have it being just a GLS but my driver's one has the logo, passenger one doesn't, however they both clear when the rear screen heater's switched on so i assume they do!

never actually put my hand near them to feel for warmth though

I have just bought a replacment glass for a 2002 Omega, It was a genuine Vaxhall one, was heated but didnt have the symbol on the top left of the mirror but did have the wide angle bit at the end divided by a line and was £47 including the VAT :y
