I need a 'number 5 lead' replacing. heeeeeelp
« on: 06 January 2011, 18:07:47 »

hello guys, hope you're all well. ive just had my car back from groses. the problems are:
1. revs jumping around at idle.
2. acceleration poor
3. at 50-70mph it judders like mad and then past this it evens out but still aint right!

groses have said that i need number 5 lead replacing (wherever that is) and that i need to replace a set of 3 leads that are 'genuine'. i refused when they wanted 280 quid to do this!!!!!  >:( >:( >:(

can someone get hold of what i need and fit it for me? ill pay of course and travel to you. im in northampton  :) :) :)

just want my poorly mig working proper again  :'( :'(

At least its the easier side ;D

Not sure if I have any leads here - I did remove them from the last car I broke, but it the fault with that car was undetermined, so I may have chucked them...

Go to a motor factors near you and purchase a set of plug leads to suit your car. Do not pay more than £35, then fit them yourself. If you cannot fit them yourself then take the leads (and the car) to your local garage and ask them to fit them.

You will always get what you pay for. Vauxhall leads are expensive but they do last years, they are also the correct length.
Halfords do sell leads at about £60 as i remember, they work fine but dont sit properly in the plug wells, they are also about ten inches to long.

Get hold of a copy of your local yellow pages. look under 'M' for motor factors, and ring one of them up and tell them that you are looking for some spark plug leads for a Vauxhall omega. they will probably ask you for your registration number. give it to them and they will sell you some leads for approx £30.00, do not go to Halfords unless you want to be ripped off.

If you cant cope with buying the leads, go to a reputable local garage and ask them to replace number 5 plug lead.

The replacement can be a universal  7 or 8mm silicone lead costing no more than £3.00 from a motor spares shop.  It does not have to have the right angled cap that fits snugly into the plug well. it can be a straight universal one. It makes no difference at all.
There is no way on this Earth it should cost more than £50.00 :y

Will the length not make a difference to the timing of the spark though?

No. It makes no difference as long as it is roughly the right length. If it was 50 foot long it might make a difference ::)
