Those pics show temp too low esp for a V6....temp shud be about 90.....even on the motorway.....mines a 2.2 and drops to 85 on the motorway....but its been discussed before that 2.2's run a bit cooler.

Its sounds like a few off you have duff stats  :(

Its not uncommon for them to fail.....i have 4 cars and changed the stats on all of them only exception being my Omega....but thats only done 75k miles

meh ... ive never been happy with the temp so im going to get it changed. garage told me it was ok so that probably means it definitely needs changed  :) anyone know if this is a big job?

Sorry, no idea.  Suspect its plenum off, along with intake bridge, but hopefully someone can confirm...

Would you like to post a quick "how too change a stat" thread.

Please

I can do one on a 1.8 veccy.....its about a 20 min job....but wont be much help to you....soz  :(

How i went about it on my veccy, was went and bought the stat...on these they come with a alloy casing.....then hunted about the engine to find it.....found it....held on by two bolts....changed it....and topped up coolant....coz you will loose some when changing it....but still that doesnt really help except make sure you have some antifreeze....coz u'll need it.

It's plenum off and the bolt holding the exit pipe onto the head has to come out, it's hard to get to and also secures the lifting bracket and dipstick tube. I think Vauxhall only supply the stat with the cover since some early covers cracked when you tightened them up so they are something like 40 quid.

Pic of it here if you want to look:

You don't need to take the timing belt off to do it.

my gauge sat just above the lowest mark until i had my stat changed last week, it now sits between the low mark and second mark, heat is ok -fans kick in so would probably be worth while changing the stat and sender (as i will be doing)! tone.
