LPG Liquid feed valve
« on: 11 April 2011, 10:44:22 »

Does anyone know what the sealing method should be on these?

Does it rely on a taper at the bottom (whould have to be precise manufacture, as valve has to point in a precise direction), or should there be some kind of sealing compound on the thread?

Do you mean the outlet on the 4 hole tank?

I believe it's sealed by the compound, rather than position.

I had to rotate mine clockwise, to clear a bracket inside the airtight box. It was 'Effin tight and hard to move!!

Also, if you have a 4 hole - the valves should be pre - fitted, so providing they point in suitable directions, you can leave them as-is. :)

Yours is a multivalve, so generally these don't come pre-fitted

Never known 4 hole tanks coming without valves before, though!

I would imagine the fitting has a tapered thread rather than seat, allowing it to seal with a little adjustability in the angle.

The question is: what "compound" is used to seal them?

Gut feeling is that PTFE gas tape might do the job, but mine looks to have been sealed with a paste of some sort. Given the PITA involved in resealing, it needs to be done the "correct" way.

Got a name and where I can get it? ie, something B&Q or Wickes, given the lack of anything useful around here.

Does it have to be gas specific - ie, not normal plumbers stuff?

This:

http://www.screwfix.com/p/ptfe-gas-tape-pack-of-10/53966

combined with this

http://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-ptfe-liquid/40302

??

So remove valve (could be easier said that done!), clean up thread of threadlock, wrap in PTFE tape, add some PTFE liquid "to make sure", screw back in?

given that the reviews on the No-Nonsesne liquid I posted earlier imply its shite! And this one mentions LPG

Get some Loctite pipe sealant: http://www.screwfix.com/p/loctite-pipe-sealant-63g/72039

I seem to recall that's the red stuff, in which case it's used by BA on various aircraft air & liquid systems so I'd imagine it'd be fine for LPG ;)

"Yellow sh*t" is better, but a) I don't know the proper name for it and b) I don't know anywhere to get it outside of the fitters at my Dad's place (they're plumbing things like liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen feeds @ 20bar and use this stuff)

Needs to be soething I can pick up tomorrow. Live in Brackley, work in chavtown. Neither have anything useful.

Tried ShitFix in Banbury. Waste of an hour, a gallon of LPG, and 20,000miles of rear rubber. And I checked with them that they had stock first. Banbarians = Thick inbred retards.

Only another 13 to go and you'll be able to fix the tank valve. :y

Gauge reads 50% (max=80%), as the cripple insisted I try to find some lag on this setup, and it was rude not to oblige....

break orf! :D

But before we do it again can you get some decent rubber on there please ::)

To put this to bed I had a chat with someone in the know today... It is a tapered thread and should seal at a tad over hand tight... Gas PTFE and some LPG suitable liquid stuff is just a belt and braces approach :y

The tank was supposed to have been valved and boxed when delivered >:(

They probably would take the belt and braces approach automatically... But never mind... It's a learning curve and that's another lesson learnt! And the required bits may come in hand at a later date ::)
