Cars for Sale & wanted / 1999 2.5 Elite Saloon for sale
« on: 21 July 2020, 14:09:08 »
Greetings everyone

Sadly it is time to part with my July 1999 (mini facelift) Omega 2.5V6 Elite which has been my daily driver since 2003. Two owners from new.  I know, I know, I will probably regret it further down the line.

She has covered 223,864 miles, most of them by me, and has been serviced regularly by me (and in the early days by some of the members on here) inc cambelt, gearbox/engine oil etc. Taken off the road last November and is currently on SORN.  The last MOT only bought up two advisories both front ns/os wheel arch brake pipes having some corrosion on.  There is some rust blistering on the front ns wheel arch and the chrome trim insert in the os rear bumper corner is bent so will need re straightening. Exhaust was replaced last year as were the front wishbones.  Still have the original ones as I planned to re-bush them and put them back on but never got round to it.  I also have an new coil pack that I was going to fit and I have the required locking kit for cambelt changes

The engine runs and still pulls like a train, gearbox kickdown is good and all the electrics work with the exception of the front passenger seat heating.  Switch on the dash works but the seat won’t warm up and there is a bulb out on the passenger climate control switch.  The full leather interior is in excellent condition.

A short walkround video of the car can be found here  https://youtu.be/Vd9BRQymtHw

Anyone interested in saving her?  PM me
Offers around £800 pls

Sorry couldn't reply sooner Fuse 19, I've been busy.   Finally managed to get the cam in the correct position, screw'd everything back together, and Hey Presto! she is running again (really pleased, I hadn't killed her).

Shall have to be more careful next time.  Thanks for your help and advice, it's good to know how to correct these little mishaps.

Thanks for the reply.

Will the cam move easily or would another pair of hands be useful?

Omega General Help / Re: Power steering fail
« on: 18 October 2016, 11:36:29 »
I had a power steering fail on mine a few months ago.  Couldn't figure out why, until i noticed some other electrics had failed as well.  Turned out to be a fuse.  iirc it was a 30amp one.

Hi terbert, just a thought. Have a good look at the aux belt tentioner pulley. Look for signs of the pulley breaking up,melting. A couple of years ago i had a pulley fail, the inner rubber wore, melted and there was a similar sound. I never realised what was going on until i started to loose electrics and power steering. When i had a good look, the pulley had created a larger hole so was not running as it shoud, hence the "bonk" . Suprisingly the pulley never parted company with its fixing.

Might be worth a look.

I'd use a proper glass polish, handy to have anyway :y

I've used the Autoglim glass polish before by hand but nothing on this scale.
There is also some Cerium Oxide based stuff on ebay.
Anybody used this stuff before ?

I have a bag of Cerium Oxide in my garage, used it many times to refurb headlights, and,to get scratches out of screens. Usual rules apply, keep lubricated and don't spend too much time in one place. Has worked for me.   :y

Hello Harris, thanks for the swift reply

What happens if you try to latch the striker with a screwdriver, door open?

Any recent lock work?

Won't latch when you try to do it manually
And no recent lock work

Omega General Help / Door won't close/latch
« on: 04 January 2016, 19:10:21 »
Greetings,

looking for a quick easy fix for this problem (trying to avoid stripping the door down)  The drivers door on my Omega won't latch. When you try to close it just "bounces" off the rubbers. I have checked the little black cam in the lock mechansim and it is fine, doesn't impeed the closing. It did this a couple of weeks ago and after a couple of tries it closed, but now won't. Have checked the outside door handle and there is resistance, but, when you move the little black cam round it is supposed to lock and be released by lifting the handle, it doesn't lock in place.

Hope that makes sense.

Anyone out there got any brainwaves

Best wishes and a Happy New year

Omega General Help / Re: Advice needed on persistant coolant loss
« on: 08 February 2015, 15:55:01 »
Hi James,

It's a '99 Mini Facelift 2.5.  190k

Coolant changed every 2 years.

If it was the oil cooler plate or the head gasket (why nearside?) wouldn' it show in the oil and expansion tank? Forgive my ignorance but where is the Coolant bridge?

Omega General Help / Advice needed on persistant coolant loss
« on: 08 February 2015, 15:29:58 »
I have been chasing a coolant loss problem for some time. Current rate of loss is from correct level to coolant low light, one week.

I have changed the HBV, Radiator and the water pump (which was showing some signs of the seal leaking) slight improvement, but still losing coolant.

I have also changed the thermostat, O ring (also showing signs of seal leaking) and transfer pipe O rings  no improvement in loss.  I have checked all the coolant hoses and unions, no signs of any leaks.  There are no signs of any leaking fluid on the ground or around the engine.   Have also checked the expansion tank, no signs of any leaking. No oil residue in the expansion tank and no signs of water (emulsion) in the oil, other than some on underside of cap.  But this is no more than usual as wife does short journeys, and not present on longer runs.

Also checked inside cabin, all dry no signs of water leaking from the heater matrix.

I am at a loss as to what to do next.  Any ideas??

Roland

Also have a slight knocking noise from under a cam cover, which sounds like a sticking hydraulic lifter.  Is Forte Top end treatment any good for unsticking it?

What's the issue with removing timing belt cover? You don't have to remove the belt... just the cover  :y

Hi Webby,
No issue, it just saves me time/effort in stripping too much off.
