any techno buffs explain this???

i had a problem with my battery this morning so boosted it and decided to take the pack with me.
 the pack was plugged into the cig lighter to put some juice back into the pack while on a medium trip. when i went to turn the car off the engine stayed running with the out and keys in my hand???
anyone explain that???

ps no i dont live near area 51

Yup, you are providing 12v back on the 12v switched rail, so will stay on.

Yep, you can actually charge the battery through the cig lighter socket, although if it's not a permanent live (like the Omega) then it won't work if the battery's dead because there's no power to energise the relay which then allows the cig lighter to charge the battery!

As a mate of mine found out when the battery went flat on his Boxster, it has an electronic boot release which of course didn't work, he tried the cig lighter method which didn't work either due to the reasons above. Not sure how he finally got around that one, there must be a manual override somewhere I'm sure.

I tried jumping my battery once. but I got my feet caught on the grille. I now stick to jumping up and down when someone annoys me instead.
