You don't 'forget' to tick a box saying you've got an existing medical condition!   >:(

Still feel for the loved ones as they're left with the mess.  :'(

Omega General Help / Re: Budget tyre recommendations
« on: 03 June 2015, 21:29:39 »
My omega tried to kill me a couple of times in the wet. I had conti's on it.
Honestly, you'd have to try an Autogrip in damp conditions to believe how bad they are. Its not possible to go around a corner/roundabout above walking pace without swapping ends. I admit I'm not the worlds best driver, but I don't think anyone could catch it.
Not that I'm suggesting suicide, STMO ;D
It wouldn't work in a FWD, or I'd give it a go....honest. ::)
You wanna bet?
Put something reasonable on the front, and Autogrip on the rear and even on a fwd motor, the rear will want to overtake the front in the damp.  :-[
I know as the rear tyres on my current ride were Autogrip when I first picked it up!
They only lasted about a fortnight before they were replaced!  :o
Absolutely leathal in the damp!

When I picked up my current mota, which is FWD, it has those Autogrip 'things' wrapping the rear wheels, and in slightly damp conditions, the rear of the car wanted to overtake the front.  :(
They were utter 'pish' as we say up here!  :-[
Ditch the Autogrips, before they ditch you!  :y
Got them on my estate, they grip fine in all weathers, try driving to the conditions, and not like Russel mikola,McRae,
I was driving to the conditions, and they were crap, really crap!

As said above it could well be water pump.
My SWMBO's Kuga sounded similar and we had timing belt & water pump changed at same time. :'(
Belt was due a change, so I couldn't be entirely sure it wasn't that.
The only way I could describe it was like an 'electric motor' type of noise. 8)
Good luck!

Up 30 days before the expiration date, and it can be pre-dated.  :y
Obviously if you chose to you can MOT your vehicle every 3 months if you wanted to.  :o

I'm a bit biased here, but have a go in a Mondeo.  :-X
Some are boring, but look for a TXS model.....nice firm ride, good on the road, loads of toys, and if you go for the 2.2 TDCi then they come in either 175 or 200PS models with shed loads of torque.
If you were a bit closer you could have a shot in mine!  :P

Are the authorities scared someone might recognise them!   :-[

General Car Chat / Re: Personal plates
« on: 05 March 2015, 07:18:59 »
Have you assigned the plate to a vehicle yet?

If so here's an extract from DVLA :-

Assigning a personalised number to a vehicle
You need to apply to DVLA to assign your personalised registration number to a vehicle. It can only be used on a vehicle that’s registered (or about to be registered), taxed and used in the UK.

How to assign your personalised number to a vehicle
Send your application to DVLA.

DVLA
Swansea
SA99 1DS

You need:
the V750 certificate of entitlement or V778 retention document signed by the person named at the top of the certificate
the registration certificate (V5C) or the new keeper supplement with a completed V62 ‘application for a vehicle registration certificate V5C’ form
an MOT test certificate for cars and motorcycles over 3 years old (1 year for heavy goods vehicles)
Pre-1960 vehicles need a valid MOT to assign a registration number.
You must complete a V62 form and return it to DVLA Swansea before applying if the new keeper supplement has been stamped by DVLA.
Conditions for assigning a personalised registration number
You can’t:
put a personalised registration number onto a vehicle displaying a ‘Q’ number plate
make the vehicle look newer than it actually is
Adding a nominee or taxing your vehicle when you assign the number
You can add a nominee when assigning the registration number by:

completing section 2 of the V750 or V778
enclosing the £25 nominee fee by cheque or postal order payable to DVLA (do not send cash)
You can tax the vehicle at the same time. You need:
a completed V10 application
a cheque (payable to DVLA, no cash accepted) for the correct vehicle tax
What happens next
Once DVLA gets your application they may need to inspect the vehicle - they’ll contact you if they need to.
DVLA should approve your application within 2 weeks and send you:
a letter showing the new registration number
a V948 authorisation letter that you’ll need to get your number plate made up
a replacement MOT test certificate for cars and motorcycles over 3 years old (1 year for heavy goods vehicles)
a new V5C registration certificate - this can take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive
Your application may take longer if DVLA needs to inspect your vehicle.
You need to tell your insurance company your new registration number.

When I bought mine many moons ago, we still had a local DVLA centre, and as the guys was doing the V5, MOT etc, I asked the same question.
I'm sure the answer was that once you have the new paperwork, you have a couple of weeks grace, to get the plates changed.

Good luck!
