Exhaust on the trolley was starting to get noisy, so new cat back system ordered from our Polish friends...
Exhaust is the original one and was blowing merrily from back box, centre box and flexible pipe.
Centre pipe and back box liberated without issue, but flexible pipe is rusted solid to the cat pipe.
Bolt heads are cut off, but even with the car jacked by the flexi side of the flange, it isn't shifting :o
Any ideas?

Get the whole flange red-hot, and use a big hammer.
But you don't have that option, so free it off with some surgical angle grinder work.

That was the conclusion I reached too... Sliced the face of the flexi flange next to the gasket, managed to open up the centre of the bottom edge enough to get chisel started, then balljoint splitter... Nearside end starting to give, but offside end still fast...
Another attack with the grinder to liberate that edge of the flange and...
Grinder 1, Head 0.
Currently in A+E :-[

I can say that, as my black eye, caused by the chisel flying out and hitting me in the face, has now faded.
The grinder was for exhaust surgery, not a DIY lobotomy.

A couple of flesh wounds... On a scale of one to dead, it barely registers a 2.5... Fortunately I turned it off before it hit the floor... might have been nearer the dead end :-X

My handy tip of the day is to ensure that the responsible adult who can drive you to the hospital isn't a wimp who faints at the sight of blood :o
I'm sure you can all figure out how I know that, and 25 years later I still have the scars. Ian is still a wimp.

Last focus I did, was cheaper and easier to fit a new manifold/downpipe/cat complete. :y

Oddly enough the first thing SWMBO said was, and I quote, "Lol. Idiot xx" Second thing she asked was where's the picture ::)
End result is actually a much neater job... had to go back in this morning to have the consultant check it and then be closed up properly by the same nurse...

For the nurse? Think she'll do really well... the consultant was impressed with the job she did cleaning it yesterday and also with todays stitching :y

Harris, I have just been informed by a mutual friend that this accident was NOT caused by a grinder at all.
He informs me that the cuts were sustained when you were kissing your girlfriend.....and she shut her legs and broke you're glasses!

Holy moly TA. You don't need anyone to tell you you've been a lucky f***er there!!! Very glad you're ok. I learned to use a grinder a couple of years back (through help from you guys) and I remember DTM saying about wearing gauntlets and a face mask. In the past I've been rather flippant with elf n safety but I am now very safety conscious especially after a couple of close calls. Always wear a face mask. No ifs or buts. :y
On an aside this has reminded me of a quote from the James Hunt biography I read a little while ago. When Hunt was talking to Niki Lauder after his near death accident......
"Niki, you're the only guy I know who could survive being in a fireball and come out of it better looking.........

I presume you were lying on your back under the car on ramps. It' a good thing human eyes are recessed. It sounds like you were able to seek aid yourself and calmly await its arrival. I guess you were wearing goggles but not a face mask because of space restrictions. You were doing a 'simple' exhaust job and hit a snag, the sort of thing tyre and exhaust shops must meet every week.
Forgive me Al, I am rambling. I have been there, with my guillotine blade incident; I empathise. Soon you back under cars. aware that life is a risky business, and that you are your own safety officer. Get well soon.
