General Discussion Area / Australian GP - No Spoilers Please
« on: 26 March 2017, 05:59:24 »
Firstly, please don't post any spoilers... No details before the race has been shown again this afternoon please!

Who's up then? I always watch the first race live, without fail. 2 years ago I was in Albert Park to watch it live and it was awesome! Still on the list to visit again.

So, further to my comment on the "What have you done" thread, here's the pictures of the car after the argument with the Stag last night.

Not actually sure where in there the battery is at the moment but it still starts and drives! In fact, I drove it home about a mile like that last night :o

Another one bites the dust... Not worth the work involved in repairing or an insurance claim.

Fortunately I have another one sat on the drive (that I bought for the Irmscher kit) so I'll make one good one from the two, assuming we decide we need 2 cars. Not sure if I'll bother swapping the LPG over though :-\

General Discussion Area / Central Heating Issue

But if a strange one this...

Oil fired boiler in a bungalow (all pipes run up through loft space and drop down to rads).

Boiler fires and runs. Pump seems to run and get hot water to all the rads but it doesn't flow through and return. This has all happened at the same time. No evidence of air in the rads and with bleed screw open there is water flowing.

To top it all off... Pump and 3 way valve relatively new and this all happened suddenly.

Any ideas?

General Discussion Area / A Busy Weekend!!
« on: 14 March 2017, 13:49:04 »
So, had a rather busy weekend. At 20:34 Sunday evening we welcomed a new person to the LD family! This is Tristan who weighed in at 8lb 8oz. Cue a blubbering mess of a proud daddy!!! Our daughter is besotted with him now, despite telling us all day yesterday that Tristan was a "naughty name"!

Omega General Help / Strange Injector Timings
« on: 22 February 2017, 11:32:25 »
Finally plugged the laptop in to see what is wrong with the LPG and why it doesn't run right and straight away it became clear that there is an oddity on the petrol injection times... One cylinder is 10 times longer than the others  :o

Before I start investigating it, any ideas?

Runs fine on petrol despite this BTW

General Discussion Area / Halfords Tools
« on: 16 January 2017, 10:10:56 »
Picked up a different work van last week and was told "We like how you kitted out the other one. Do it again" so popped to Halfords in Basingrad and picked up the bits and pieces.

Got home and found that the 150 piece kit was actually a 170 in a 150 cardboard sleeve and missing 2 bits! Off to Ipswich store and ended up keeping the 170 (now complete) and exchanging the toolbox trays for 170 piece.

Whilst there I asked about the warranty (because my proof of purchase is for a 150 piece set) and they said the policy has now changed and if it says Halfords on it then they just exchange it. A handy thing to know I thought.

As an aside, that's the second time I've shopped in the Basingstoke store (8 months apart) and both times the goods have been incorrect! Pretty poor service there IMO. Mind you... It is Basingstoke

This time next week she will have removed all of her hair (and there's a lot of it!) for 2 great charities. So please donate anything you can spare.

General Discussion Area / An eventful day
« on: 06 October 2016, 16:38:59 »
So, today is "New Phone Day" for Mrs LD and I... We have gone back into the Fan Boy Fold because neither of us have managed to gel with Android.

There I am, merrily tracking the DPD driver with my shiny new handset when the Father in Law rings to say that Mother in Law has fallen in the garden and the Ambulance may be some time!

We jump into separate vehicles (because I'm on call!) and zoom over (only 6 miles or so) to find her laying on the driveway. Mrs LD takes charge of her dad and they go off to sort out bags and stuff whilst I'm left holding MiL's hand and keeping her calm. Now fortunately we are all trained first aiders to varying degrees (all expired though) so we all knew exactly what was going on.

Whilst you would think that my rather unsympathetic approach to things (sympathy is in the dictionary...) would probably mean I'm not the ideal person to sit with her but we have an understanding  :y

Anyway... ambulance rocks up about 30-45 minutes later and the crew were superb. Took a long time to get her stabilised and ready to move but got there eventually. Off to hospital with the thanks of the crew for just doing everything the right way, including assisting them with rolls, stabilising and lifting. Mrs LD heads in by car and spends the day with her (and more importantly him!) getting the facts. Right femur broken right at the hip with surgery scheduled for tomorrow.

Going to be a long few weeks now as MiL is the only driver and they live, like us, in the middle of nowhere. On top of that, FiL is not exactly great at doing anything for himself ::)

Still... New phones arrived slap bang inside the delivery window :y :D

Omega General Help / Alternator fault or is there a charge relay?
« on: 19 August 2016, 19:35:19 »
Here it is guys... Away on holibobs in SW Wales and driving back to the site today the battery light flickered on a couple of times then stayed on whenever on overrun or light throttle but bury it and it went out.

Then suddenly there was a loss of power (because it went into limp) and electrical systems started shutting down. Pulled over, switched off and restarted fine but a light glow from the battery light. Sure enough, 11.2V but constant no matter what electrical load is put on. Drove the 25 minutes back to the site with no battery light but within the last 2 miles the electrical systems started shutting down. Limped to our pitch, parked up, switched off and (as expected) the battery was flat.

Left it for a while and tested the connections as best I can with (very) limited tools I have here and the battery recovered sufficiently to start the car but, again, only 11.5V whatever electrical load is applied.

So.... Is there a charging relay or a fuse that is worth checking? As this all happened suddenly with no warning.

I'm sure I know the answer but remember a Cavalier I had in the past with similar symptoms and it was a charging relay.

Failing that... Anyone in Pembrokeshire with tools and a spare alternator?

General Discussion Area / Well, that's a pretty crappy week then
« on: 20 April 2016, 10:04:38 »
I have suddenly found myself with an abundance of time on my hands. My business has gone under and the head office role I was doing has been pulled out from under me! >:(

Got a few ideas knocking about but now desperately seeking work before things get worse... Not been paid anything for 8 weeks (for various reasons) so anything considered! Anyone heard of anything?

General Discussion Area / Possible OOF Assistance Request
« on: 23 March 2016, 22:39:51 »
Basically, mother has got a Pug 206 1.4 and may have an alternator fault... I'm diagnosing by phone at the moment. Her mechanic has broken his arm so is out of action.

Before I do the 450 mile round trip next week to sort it, is there anyone near Richmond, North Yorkshire, who might be able to help?

TIA :y
