Omega General Help / Air con service in London
« on: 04 April 2014, 16:03:37 »
My aircon works fine and there is still gas in the system. Its approaching 3 years since it was and serviced/regassed so I was thinking about getting it serviced and topped up to ensure it stays tickety boo.

Can someone recommend a specialist or someone who knows what they are doing, in the East London area (excluding ATS and Kwik Fit).

Thanks

General Discussion Area / Anyone work in HR?
« on: 02 April 2014, 20:41:47 »
Since 2010 I have been working as a self employed subcontractor in plumbing (was employed prior to that). Since then, I have had quite a few jobs - some as long as a year and a half and others 2.5 weeks. So my CV isn't as attractive as it should be and its also quite long winded at the moment as I am listing what I have been doing for the past 3.5 years. I know it's probably not a good idea but the alternative was to leave gaps which I didn't want.

I am now looking for work again and would appreciate some guidance. What is the best way to approach this period and what clichés to avoid?

Thanks

Omega General Help / urgent help - new fuel filter wont clip on
« on: 29 March 2014, 15:13:02 »
I thought removing it would be difficult - it wasnt but clipping it in is proving to be a pain. Its clicked on the tank side (rear) but the front won't click. Its as if being blocked but without the clip the filter goes fully in.

I've tried the clip that came off but still wont go in.

General Car Chat / Detecting dealer BS
« on: 28 March 2014, 11:18:56 »
Just returned from a 10 mile round trip to my nearest VX dealer to buy some clips for the fuel filter (they turned out to be very expensive clips)

I asked the gentleman behind the counter if they participated in Trade Club.  In replied in the affirmative but added this was only open to those using their 'masterfit' service i.e you will get shafted but we'll make it easier by providing some lube.

Can someone shed some light on how Trade Club works and if dealers have to accept it?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Battery light question
« on: 25 March 2014, 16:34:56 »
When I switch off the ignition, the battery light comes on and goes off when I remove the key. Is this normal?

I can only remember it doing this when my alternator was on its last legs and I have since replaced it with a used part which I hope isn't about to die.

Thanks

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Dash light bulb (tacho side)
« on: 22 March 2014, 17:30:46 »
Went to halfords to get ripped off while attempting to buy a light bulb. I wanted the 501 2w or 2.2w but all they had were the 5w. Is there anything else I can use instead of the 501? I know the answer to this but I have been wrong before  ;D

Thanks

Omega General Help / Is this a sign of a coolant leak?
« on: 22 March 2014, 17:26:06 »

Serviced my car today and cleaned the breathers so took this opportunity to search for this small coolant leak. I was hoping it would be the HBV but that looks alright (although the view of it wasn't the best). Pic was taken with the plenum off (just for clarification).

What do you clever lot think?

General Car Chat / Service time!
« on: 27 February 2014, 20:16:46 »
I don't have ABS membership but don’t want to compromise on quality so don't want any pattern parts. Is my only option is paying retail prices? I have have two drums of oil and an oil filter. I just need

Air filter
Fuel filter
Cabin filter

Coolant was changed with waterpump 1.5 year ago so I will leave that for another year. Will also clean breathers

Anything else

General Car Chat / Recommend me low clearance axle stands
« on: 16 February 2014, 18:11:00 »
I need a pair a low height axle stands to use with my small trolley jack. I have a set of good stands but these are too high for the small jack. Max height of jack is 345mm so stands need to be lower than this.

Budget max £20, ideally £15. I already have a 3 ton jack and good set of stands to use for working under the car or for jobs that require the car to be high. These will be mainly be used for inspections and oil changes so do not need something brilliant.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Need help with couple of leaks
« on: 16 February 2014, 11:39:42 »
After returning from a short drive last night and parking in the same spot, I noticed drip tracks on the road in the direction I left starting from where I was parked.

I had experienced this with my previous Omega and it was the HBV. With this car the coolant has been weeping from somewhere for around 9 months.  ::)  Coolant level looks unchanged.

There is a bit of a pool of water/oil on top of the oil sump. Behind the AC 'wheel' (wheel which runs on the aux belt) it looks very likely it could have come from there because it looks like a greasy mess.

These two things could well be two different problems. Hope not for the sake of my wallet. Will have a poke around in a while. Any advice before I get out there?

Omega General Help / what grease for door hinges?
« on: 02 February 2014, 18:51:03 »
So I have joined Detailing World and cleaned my door hinge (only had time to clean the drivers door). I have White Lithium Grease and WD40  ;D yes I know AndyB

But white grease is quite messy but I can try to spray it using the straw. If I was to remove the black cap and spray around the the hinge pin, would that work its way in?

I dont want to cover the outside of the hinge in grease like garages do to show they've done something.

What sensors/parts should I cover? I wont be hosing or pressure washing huge amounts of water but I have a garden sprayer which I will be using.

Any advice/pointers welcome

Thanks
