Omega General Help / Need an expert on Auto Transmission Fault Codes
« on: 24 December 2010, 17:55:18 »
Tonight I experienced a problem with my Auto Transmission. It made a slight clonk when changing up to top gear (I think it was top) and then I noticed the orange car / spanner warning light had come on. It does not now seem to want to change into top gear. It seems to be stuck in third, as if in Snow mode, but the snow light is not on, and I have not used it today but have quite often of late. I checked for the fault codes and I am getting 0700. Can anyone clarify what this is please? I have checked the codes posted on here by MDTMC which showed P0700 as "Transmission control system range/performance" but when checking on other sites for GM fault codes I found

* P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction
* P0701 Transmission Control System Range/Performance

Which ever meaning it is, it sounds like it will cost money.

Just typical that this happens on Christmas eve when the kids want ferrying around the place.  :'( :'(

Omega General Help / Steering Idler
« on: 11 December 2008, 13:02:01 »
I need to replace my steering idler assembly due to the bush being worn out.  I have purchased the new components, both the bracket that bolts to the Chassis and the idler arm itself, with bush inserted. I intend to fit them to the car this weekend (providing it's not snowing too much lol) but not sure what Torque values to apply when fitting.

Haynes Manual seems pretty vague on this. Any help would be appreciated

Omega General Help / Missfire on 3.2 V6
« on: 12 April 2010, 13:18:47 »
Hi All

My V6 has started to missfire. I first noticed it about two weeks ago when sitting in a traffic que in Drive. I selected Neutral and the problem went away. During normal driving the engine ran fine. This kept happening until this morning were it kept missfiring even when driving, the orange warning light (Engine symbol) was flashing at the same time. As speed increased to about 25MPH she came back onto all 6 cylinders and the warning light stopped flashing. This, I fear is only going to get worse. There does not apear to be any sign of oil leaking into the plug holes, and on the face of it nothing looks out of place.

I know someone on here will have experienced the same. Any ideas would be appreciated :y

Omega General Help / Front Wheel Bearing assembly
« on: 05 April 2010, 09:52:32 »
I need to replace my NSF wheel bearing assembly. This will be the second time as the replacement I fitted last year (pattern part) does not appear to run true. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion as to whether I should go for a "SNR" kit from "Euro Car Parts" (Part Number: 628720080) which they recommend, or go to my local Vauxhall agent for a genuine part. The pattern part I used before was an "FAG" part from "Sutton Auto Factors". I don't feel inclined to use them again!

Cheers  [smiley=rolleyes.gif]

Omega General Help / Suspect worn out front wheel bearing
« on: 03 November 2009, 13:03:31 »
Hi All

I suspect that I have a wheel bearing on it's way out, as I am getting a humming noise which seems to be coming from the NSF. Have tried usual things like loading and unloading the bearing (turning left and right) to try and clarify which wheel, so am faily convinced it is as above.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I should go for a new bearing/hub assembly for quality and best price?  :y

Cheers

Omega General Help / Oil Filter Removal on 2.6 V6
« on: 24 August 2008, 13:58:00 »
Has anybody experienced difficulties removing one of the Cartridge type oil filters fitted to the 2.6 and 3.2 engines? I have turned the darned thing anti clockwise a full 360 Deg, but it will not come off or apart. I was expecting the top cap (with the 24mm Hex on top) to move and leave the cylinder stationary, but the whole lot turns, allbeit axtremely tightly.  >:( >:( Any help would be appreciated

I would like to insert a picture of the offending item, but can't seem to do that either. :)

Omega General Help / Engine Warning Light
« on: 02 August 2008, 08:25:09 »
Driving home yesterday in my 2.6 estate when the "Engine" Warning light came on and stayed on (The one that looks like the profile of an Engine)

My Handbook says this is a fault with the Engine electronics or emissions control.

Has anyone experienced this? I know not where to start looking for the problem. The engine still seems to run ok, and nothing appears to be hanging off.

I was planning on driving down to Heathrow Airport tomorrow, so now wondering if I should be looking for alternative transport.  :o :o ::) ::)

Omega General Help / Front Wheel Bearings
« on: 26 June 2008, 13:07:31 »
Hi All
Can anyone tell me if the front wheel bearings on my 2001 2.6 Omega can be changed? I have been told that they cannot, and that the whole hub has to be replaced!  MOT tester mentioned that there was excessive play in front NS

Any Thoughts?  :-/

Omega General Help / Air Conditioning
« on: 20 January 2008, 10:11:11 »
The Air Conditioning on my 2.6 seems to have stopped working. Can anyone tell what visible signs there are that the compressor is working ie: should the disc on the front be rotatong when engaged? If so how does this work? I have checked all of the fuses I can find, but all apear to be okay. I have also consulted my "Haynes" manual; and as usual the term "Chocolate Fire Guard" springs to mind. :-?

Cheers in advance

Omega Gallery / Wheel colour change on my MV6
« on: 15 August 2010, 10:08:18 »
Got fed up with a slow air leak on two of the wheels between the tyre and rim, so thought I would get the tyres removed and get the rims cleaned up etc. Then thought while the tyres are off I try a change of colour.

As Standard with the leaky rims.

Now Anthracite powdercoat, which are supposed to be easier to keep clean

General Car Chat / Flabbergasted
« on: 21 August 2011, 20:23:31 »
Thought I would share this one with you all.

I went to see my local VX dealer on Saturday in Stamford (Lincs) to enquire how much for them to supply and fit 2 new front suspension wishbone assemblies to my 2002 estate. Thought I have nothing to lose by asking, as I am not so inclined to grovel under the car these days, as always seem to suffer afterwards.

I was absolutely astonished at the price they came back with:

£228+VAT for each of the wishbones.
£224.25 for the fitting and alignment.
Total:  £771.45  (How Much?? I said picking myself up off the floor)

Have others here on OOF experienced similar extortion at VX main dealers?

Needless to say, I have not taken them up on their kind and generous offer, but may have to go back for the alignment after I fit some after market items myself.  I mean, who pays these sort of prices?  Talk about a rip off.

General Car Chat / New Brakes
« on: 08 June 2009, 13:10:08 »
Just fitted new genuine Brake Disks and Pads to my estate. What a difference it's made. It used to shake it's head under braking, and braking power was never that brilliant. No shaking now and stops true, straight and very effectively.

Just had to tell someone  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=cheesy.gif]

General Discussion Area / Supermarket madness
« on: 24 December 2010, 10:58:12 »
Why oh why do supermarkets block up the food isles with extra stuff stacked on the floor at the busiest time of the year, when record numbers of people are trying to do their Christmas food shopping.

It’s bad enough having to tolerate being knocked and bumped into by shopping  trolleys being controlled by people with little or no patience, but then I suppose I can somewhat sympathize when the available floor space on which to maneuver the trolleys, that have a mind of their own anyway, has been reduced by 50 bl**dy % .

And then of course you you have to queue at the checkouts to purchase the stuff that has just taken you twice as long to collect.  Ahhhh!! ;D ;D

General Discussion Area / Anyone done this before?
« on: 06 January 2009, 13:14:40 »
Went out to the car this morning as usual, (06:30) started engine and turned on demistors. Picked up my ice scraper in readiness to clean ice from screen (-5Deg). Door closed behind me as I got out, and would you beleive it locked itself.
So there I am, car running, my bag in car, the house key on the key ring which is in the ignition. eeek! what now?
Eventually managed to wake Mrs Px by several phone calls and banging on front door to get out of bed and open the front door. (not at all happy!) I eventually found my spare key in the "Man" draw, and was able to open the car door. Phew!

Has anyone else experienced such a problem?
