Omega General Help / Missfire on 3.2 V6
« on: 12 April 2010, 13:18:47 »
Hi All

My V6 has started to missfire. I first noticed it about two weeks ago when sitting in a traffic que in Drive. I selected Neutral and the problem went away. During normal driving the engine ran fine. This kept happening until this morning were it kept missfiring even when driving, the orange warning light (Engine symbol) was flashing at the same time. As speed increased to about 25MPH she came back onto all 6 cylinders and the warning light stopped flashing. This, I fear is only going to get worse. There does not apear to be any sign of oil leaking into the plug holes, and on the face of it nothing looks out of place.

I know someone on here will have experienced the same. Any ideas would be appreciated :y

Ahh! A topic broached many times on here. Dare I suggest that it's endemic with the car design. I love my car to bits, but ever so occasionally when driving on the back roads around here it seems to want to take over, with a mind of it's own, and steer where "it" wants to go!  ;D  ;D

http://www.vauxhallworldparts.com/partsearch/partdetail.php?partid=410&partlinkid=6545

Ive orderd quite alot off thae site and theyre deliver quickly, most suspension parts on it are febi bilstein.

£67 from ECP, they do a cheaper one, but as said I am a bit hesitant about going for cheap.
 Thanks for the info

When I say it doesn't run true, I actally mean the disc oscilates ever so ever so slightly, resulting in a rubbing noise / feeling transmittted through the car at about 25MPH. Above and below this speed it is virtually undetectable. I changed the front discs and pads two weeks ago thinking they were warped, but problem still remains. Where would I obtain contitech Parts?

Cheers

Omega General Help / Front Wheel Bearing assembly
« on: 05 April 2010, 09:52:32 »
I need to replace my NSF wheel bearing assembly. This will be the second time as the replacement I fitted last year (pattern part) does not appear to run true. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion as to whether I should go for a "SNR" kit from "Euro Car Parts" (Part Number: 628720080) which they recommend, or go to my local Vauxhall agent for a genuine part. The pattern part I used before was an "FAG" part from "Sutton Auto Factors". I don't feel inclined to use them again!

Camber is adjustable.....-1deg 10' is the required setting (and dont let them tell you otherwise  :y)

Mark, Does this setting apply to all Omegas, including MV6? :question

Sounds very much like a wheel bearing! You need to take it for a drive on a road with reasonably tight twisty bends and listen to see if the noise increases  or decreases while in the bend. For example: if the noise decreases on a left hand bend, and then reapears when you straighten up, it's a reasonably sure sign that the left hand bearing is worn out. (and visa versa)
Just because the bearings where changed last march doesn't mean to say they are now still okay. You may not notice any undue play when checking with the car jacked up.
It will still be worth checking the brake caliper assemblies etc are tight, but if these were rubbing on the disc it would be more of a scraping/rubbing sound you would hear.

Please post back the results of investigation   :y

As the general opinion here is that the fuel economy on all the V6's is very much the same, I've decided I'm going to look for a 3.2 Elite facelift....heck..why not. (I currently have a  1998 2.5)

Is there anything I should look out for especially, apart from the normal oil leaks and cambelt changes.
Sorry to dissapoint, but you will definitely notice a negative difference in fuel consumption when compared with your 2.5. Especially when driving in, let's say, 'A Spirited fashion'. But yes, good fun, so go for it as I did earlier this year. :y :y

It's quite a flimsy soft rubber strip, and I view it as 'cosmetic'

It's very easily damaged too.
Some miggy's have it fitted, some don't. Don't worry about it's absence.
Yep I agree, mine has been cought several times and longer fits up flush to the bumper. May consider removing.  ;)

Omega General Help / Suspect worn out front wheel bearing
« on: 03 November 2009, 13:03:31 »
Hi All

I suspect that I have a wheel bearing on it's way out, as I am getting a humming noise which seems to be coming from the NSF. Have tried usual things like loading and unloading the bearing (turning left and right) to try and clarify which wheel, so am faily convinced it is as above.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I should go for a new bearing/hub assembly for quality and best price?  :y

Cheers

For what it's worth, I experience the same problems. Firstly with my 2.6 estate, where I changed the wishbones, tyres, springs, suspension struts, tried different tyre pressures, and had it all set up, but it still tended to move about on anything but nice smooth motorway type roads. The only thing I didn't change was the rear suspension mounting bushes, and that was mainly due to difficulties experienced by some members on here with fitting them, so thought I would give that experience a miss.

I have now changed the car for a 3.2 MV6 estate, with considerably less miles on the clock than the 2.6, and guess what; same problems. This has good quality Michelins fitted, and again, on good quality road surfaces the car is fine, but unfortunately the rural roads around here are not in the best of condition.
I try to convince myself that it's ok, but I am quickly shaken back to reality when I drive the wife's eight year old Focus, as that tracks beautifully on whatever road surface you care to drive it on.

So I have resigned myself to the fact that it is something I just have to live with. I just wish that someone could come up with, and engineer a viable alternative wishbone setup with better / stiffer bushes to that fitted as standard.

Rant over [smiley=rolleyes.gif] :y

what tyres fitted?

I have driven another members mv6 3.2 customer spec  car(not plod) with Dunlops fitted (sport max?) and i can assure you it is entirely possible to get an omega to track straight on poor and uneven surfaces, i beleive he had £50 wish bones fitted as well, so nothing special about the chassis other than its mv6 suspension which you now have anyway.

i went for conti sc3 over the Dunlops due to noise, sc3 do tram line a fraction but are quieter so seem a good compromise.

There are firmer bush options, merle do heavy duty wishbone bushes, and the rear donut bush issues you may have seen may well relate to myself and others trying to fit carlton bushes, which are firmer, but have a suttle differance in dimensions making them unsuitable. I am looking at modifying mine as an experiment but as i say, with appropriate tyres fitted, should not need firmer
bushes, trouble is there are phew tyres on the market that track well imho, i beleive the omega left the factory with michelin primacy fitted, so any thing else may very well give issues of some sort.

Blimey Chris, do you actually go to bed at night? I was looking at one of your other responses posted well into the early hours ;D

Any way, back to the point in hand. The tyres fitted to my car would appear to be the OE fitted as they are Michelin Primacy HP. 235/45/R17.

I just wish I had the facilities to fabricate a wishbone that maybe uses rose joints or something. I know the cushioning effect of the bushes would be lost, but wish I could do it just for the hell of it to prove or disprove the theory.

Don't suppose anyone ever raced one of these in anger, as I'm sure something would have been developed. ::) :question
