Removal of rear quarter trim/moulding
« on: 04 February 2013, 06:54:52 »

Could not find anything related to this... Plan is to paint the car, or at least other side plus bumpers. Have removed sill covers, rear bumper and one mirror, all went well. BUT. Got stuck with the rear quarter side moulding (or whatever it is in english...). One screw in wheel arch, then tried prising it off, something snapped and can now see a small pin (similar to the ones on the sill where the weather strip attaches) and a big white plastic thingy on the moulding itself. Will not go back, trying to prise the rest off is difficult, it is stuck HARD and I'm afraid to damage the rear quarter panel.

So, is it supposed to just prise off, can I get the white attachemnt thingys from dealers or am I doing it all wrong?

To answer your last 3 questions in order...

Yes, carefully.
Yes, about €12, 5 clips per side iirc
No, they can be quite stubborn.

Lift the front edge clear of the wheel arch and knock it towards the back of the car. It should pop off :y

Thanks. Bloody expensive they are, plastic clips... One seems to be broken so one to add to the list of purchases, will try smacking it towards the rear.

They are only sold in packs of 5 and, like a lot of modern body fixings, are designed to break when you remove them. They're about £6 or £7 a pack IIRC. Get them through trade club. Like the use of "lift the dot" fixings, they are meant for speed of manufacture not ease of removal.
