Have i been too hasty......will these fit
« on: 09 May 2011, 05:04:29 »

Hi,

On a spur of the moment thing, I bought these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250817214491&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_1156

I was thinking of fitting them to my '97 estate which currently has halogen normal lights.....

Am i right in saying there is work involved in this, and is it better that i look for some standard projector types lights (as that would be fine for me really....just after the clear lenses look)

thanks

They will fit, but there are loads of posts about what's the official position.

Auto levelling and headlight washers are required. The manual electric levellers on your existing headlights can be swapped over to these and they will work.

However, the wiring is also different so beware.

Good luck

Well, I'm sure they are legal to fit as they are Vauxhall ones...taken from the same car, which were available as a factory fit option.....soooo from what i have read, that is ok.
However, the legallity issues arise in the adjustability and leveling of them.

I dont really fancy fitting washers.....lot of hassle...If i can get hold of all the parts to do so, i may consider it....but it's more likely that i'll just keep a decent cloth in the car to make sure i give em a wipe every now and then. I make a habit of keeping all my headlights clean anyway.

just comes down to MOT's then i suppose.
Well, they were cheap.......and i have a very reactive left click finger on the mouse lol.

Click happy huh....me too !

If your car wasn't originally fitted with HID's you may have fun and games ahead.

The auto self levelling is somewhat critical, as I found out when mine wasn't working properly.

If the lights rattle when you shake them there is a good chance that the adjusters inside the light have snapped off....quite common it would appear.

Without self levelling there is a good chance you'll be either lighting up the nights sky or have perfect night time view of the road but only about 3 ft in front of you. Been there, got the T Shirt.

DfT clearly state 3 things (Lenses, washers and levelling) - you have 1 (lenses), unless yours is an elite, then you have self levelling and washers as well.

It is NOT checked as part of MOT, but DfT are trying to clamp down...
