Hi all,

i have just been reading throught this thread and i to have been looking into fitting H.I.D's as i have the projector style headlights already fitted but only with the standard bulbs.

after reading the above reply from RobG, i am slightly confused  :o

Like i said, i have the projector headlights, i have the headlight washer jets that work and i have the aim height adjuster under the headlight switch in the dash......

with all this, if i fitted a H.I.D kit as found on the well known auction site, would this be a pass or a fail come MOT time.

many thanks

Fail. Although the wording of the text is slightly ambiguous, it states "aftermarket kits" are a fail. If you were to fit a pair of genuine HID`s sourced from an Omega, along with washers and levelling system, albeit manual, it should be a pass.

I was under the impression that self levelling wasnt a requirement for the MOT. :-/

I been doing some googling about the height adjustment leveling sensors and i believe that it should be located in the nearside front wheel arch, with a link arm from the lower wishbone arm to the leveling sensor....

Although i dont have this sensor fitted i did find this one but dont know what its for.

is this to do with leveling the lights or something completely different.

just to explain more, this i located on the rear axle of the car with the connecting rod fixed to the rear off-side lower arm, and it an estate that i have. (oh and excuse the elastic band holding the arm on lol) when i first see this, the arm was hangong off so quick fix to hold it in place

many thanks

MOT rules are changing 1 Jan 2012 .....

It is my information that from that point onwards aftermarket HIDs will fail unless they also have self leveling and washers.

My information COULD be wrong but I would advise anyone considering an aftermarket or DIY HID install to check the legalities properly before starting.

I have recently fitted elite HID,s to my CD. ::)
Will keep the old lights in case I need to do an annual swapover. ;)
The non HID omega headlights are imo positively dangerous. :(

well after doing some more googling, (which took me back to this site) i found that the sensor i took a picture of, is the self leveling suspension unit, and is shown here -

i should of looked on here in the first place  :-[

well that means no headlight adjusters fitted to my car then  >:(

Surely if you have an elite, you have self levelling which is what is required to have HID's...so should be ok...

Also replacing your projectors with HID's is surely not replacing them with a kit...its a genuine Vaux item...

I have a pair of genuine HID's here if you are interested...aluminium adjusters in them so no chance of them breaking :y PM me if interested :)

Surely you are getting confused with Elite rear self leveling shocks (nothing to do with the lights), and the front self leveling SENSORS which are specifically for the HID lights!?

A car which does not have HID's should not have the front rapid adjustment sensors for the Lights.....but an elite WOULD have rear self levelling suspension?

or have i read your post wrong and that wasn't what you meant at all?

Due to the problems I would advise getting your MOT done when daylight exists.

There is no way on earth I am removing my HIDs in the winter.
