Popped into my local ATS this afternoon and asked them to balance my rear wheels. They looked at them briefly (and i mean very briefly without taking them off the car) and decided that the tyres were out of shape, and wearing unevenly, and balancing would not sort out the problem, and i needed new tyres.

Had my MOT last week, and they reported no problems on my tyres.....???

Are they just trying to take me for a ride, or does it sound reasonable?

Well i will get the balancing done as i think they only charge about £6 per wheel.

If that doesn't work, i will try putting the spare on in place of one wheel and trying to see if there is any improvement. If there is then i have found either a dodgy wheel or tyre. If not, i will keep putting the spare on in place of the other wheels etc.

What would be involved in sorting the prop shaft if it was that? Will get the balance checked on monday!

Have got a noticible vibration coming from one of the wheels. Can't work out which side, or if its front or back (or both).

At low speeds it almost feels like i'm driving over a lightly rumbled road, and it almost sounds / feels like there is a very slight grinding / rubbing. Its not brakes cos i've JUST had them done. At higher speeds >75mph the vibration is getting bad enough that i don't drive at those speeds.

Wondered whats best to check. I have had all 4 wheels balance within the last few months. Could it be a bearing maybe? Anyone else had this? or got any ideas?

I have this problem with mine since i've owned it. (Sept 2006)

Have been meaning to get the power sounder sorted but keep doing more important things with my money.

Easy short-term solution is to get out of the car. Open rear (drivers side) door. Push down drivers lock button and close rear door. Car locked but alarm not set. I've been doing this for 6 months now!  ::)

Also pop the rubber cover off the rear behind the full beam/sidelight bulb, you should find a lever (for continental dippers), adjust this and see if there is any difference.

So thats what that lever is for!! As i was playing around when changing the bulb, i popped that cover off by mistake and started to try and remove the wrong bulb. While doing so i was feeling for how to get the bulb out and wrongly thought that lever was a spring clip. I must have left it in the opposite position to how it was, and i think that is probably what was wrong. Have changed it back now and it certainly seems better. Will be able to tell for certain in about 4 hours time!

Thanks guys again for your help!

Ok, i have checked and both the "golf ball" projectors are dim. They would maybe be better described as just about glowing eerily. Almost in a smoky crystal ball looking way. Certainly not bright!

Any ideas?

Omega General Help / No headlights!

I had the warning come up on my display a few weeks ago that Head/Tail Light needed sorting.

I noticed that the n/s sidelight bulb was out so i replaced this. Subsequently the display stopped giving me warnings so i assumed all was now well in the world of illumination.
 8-)

Unfortunately i was driving at night later that day and found that my lights were totally ineffective and i couldn't see a thing unless i either put my front fogs on or put my full beam on.

I'm a little confused as to which bulb should be my headlights because all the bulbs appear to be working. As i look at the front of my car there are 3 bulbs. One on the outside near the indicator, then 2 almost one above the other.

If i put my sidelights on, the only bulbs that illuminate is the bottom one of the 2. If i turn my headlights on then the outside one near the indicators come on but not very brightly. The bottom ones of the 2 also stay on.

If i turn my Full beam on, the top ones of the 2 come on.

Does this seem like normal behaviour? I am driving to france next week and i know they are hot on headlights so i'd really appreciate any help i can get?

Is there possibly a fuse i need to change? I don't have my manual to hand to check which one it is.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I believe they can be swapped over but from what i've read before its not as easy as it might seem. I'm sure there will be an expert along shortly to point you in the right direction... :y

Blimey its cold out :(

Right, mine is T-25 for the screw.

I've given you a bum stear - the slot needs to be perpendicular to windscreen base, parallel is the locked position. Sorry.

Here is piccie of the plastic bit...

and it fits in this kind of slot...

What clean hands!!

Do you moisturise?  ;D

Omega General Help / Part Numbers needed
« on: 04 December 2006, 16:45:52 »
Can anyone help me with a couple of part numbers please?

When doing the cambelt i noticed a couple of missing bolts.

1 was from the cam cover. (5 holes and only 4 bolts) (I noticed that the bolt that secures the air con hose to the bracket was the same bolt so i pinched it from there and have cable tied the air con hose to the bracket until i can get the replacement bolt.

The other one was one of the hex bolts that secures the cable tray.

Omega General Help / Re: V6 Cambelt Change
« on: 04 December 2006, 15:36:12 »
Cheers guys.

If anyone has a V6 and the cambelt needs changing, seriously consider doing it yourself.

£3 for the DVD and a loan from someone of the cam locking tool is all you will need.

It REALLY is nowhere near as daunting as you might think. Go on, give it a go!
