Second jab
« on: 08 April 2021, 12:01:37 »

Just been for mine, so my chances of catching one particular strain of the virus have been diminished. Time to start worrying about the other seventeen variations.  ;D

It will still be a few weeks before your antibodies reach optimal levels and no vaccine is 100% effective
plus you could still catch and pass on Chinese virus to someone else and be unaware
so social distancing etc is still advised
but well done for not being frightened off having a jab or second with the current press reporting blood clots with the astra zeneca  jab.
why the press are making such a song and dance about 70 people in 20 million doses is beyond me ::)
if 70 million (uk population  :-\) had the jab then that equates to possibly 245 people getting clots ,compare that with 130,000 who have died so far ,then factor in all those people who have had covid and are suffering long term effects (including blood clots FROM covid)

how is the good lady wife now uncle Stemo ? fully recovered i hope

Me, scared? No way.

Besides, I had the Pfizer jab  ;D

Wife is fine thanks, Dave, but it was six months ago she had the virus.

I would wager 22 more years of NI contributions could be seen as useful. At a push :P

.

On Gov.UK there is a page where you can see all your NI contributions that you have paid , one rainy afternoon I totalled all mine up it came to around £60,000 so 7 years of State pension & I could be in profit ! Only 66 more payments to go.

Hmm we havent had our first jab yet here in sunny sangria. Seems like the Vauxhall Astra Zeneca got politicised. Spain just decided that the 65 to 79 year olds will have to have Pfizer of Moderna so more waiting. I suspect we are in the age group that doesn’t  matter. Not working ( hopefully) reasonably healthy ( hopefully) and so can hide away. They are however vaccinating the under 65s.
My 96 year old Dad gets his VAZ second jab tomorrow in UK.

I saw France has an app with about 200,000 registered for end of day surplus jabs from the many no shows. Seems a good idea to save on waste. Anything like that in pie and pint country?

Most surguries here are offering short notice appointments for those due in the following week...

"If you can get here by X time..." type of short notice.

I suspect that you could probably rock up an hour before clpsing and leave jabbed.

Suspect it will be a few weeks before I get my 2nd.  Given we were booked in around 10 miles away (nearest we could book), but got called in early to local doctors as they had some spare, I'm half expecting the NHS to cock it up.  But I congratulate them completely for what they have achieved.

No idea what one I had.  Some pretty young thing just gave me a little prick.....

I agree with that comment TB. I have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis(I hope none of our OOF'ers get it) and it is the most painful thing I have ever experienced. Even being wounded in my right hand years ago. The service I have received up here has been phenomenal. Can't praise them enough.  :y :y :y

Its a much higher risk of a clot when taking the contraceptive pill, sadly the idiots peddling this shit are probably also avoiding that one to  >:(

Caught a bit on the news this morning from another Covid "expert" , reading between the lines I reckon we'll be in lockdown again by July. Stay safe Steve.

My wife's sister is an expert in Catostrophising (Is that a word?) And also has an old nursing friend who is quite senior inn a London hospital.
Who told her that they are preparing forv a potential wave of cases in July.
Now personally I think that information should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Preparing for something which potentially may or may not happen is something we all do on a daily basis.
I'm payingbinto a pension, whilst paying out for life insurance. I've got a fire blanket in my kitchen and a fire extinguisher and smoke alarms on every floor. I have a first aid kit. Prepared. It not the same as actually going to happen.

Anyway, I haven't got a date for my second jab. Ecpectingba text in 2 or 3 weeks. I do need to go into the office. My client suggested this yesterday. Maybe one day a fortnight ? I'm sure It will be fine.......

If your time's up that's it you can't change your place in the queue, no amount of preparation is going to alter that.

Who told her that they are preparing for a potential wave of cases in July.
And so they should.  As you said in the rest of your post, its common sense to plan for disasters that reasonably could happen.

Unfortunately, the media like to pick up on it and say the authorities are preparing for XYZ, and the thick public then immediately see that as a dead cert it will.

The end of July is six weeks after the current planned end of lockdown restrictions. The last two produced a spike in new cases, why would this be any different? Planning for it is a sensible, realistic use of existing data which is what it is for. I suspect the current phased reduction of lockdown is not only chosen for political reasons, but to mask such a spike in the numbers. Although that will only fool the general public who have no idea how statistics actually work.

It will be interesting to see how big a the vaccine program makes.
