Hi everyone,
I have had my 1996 3.0l V6 Elite Omega with nearly 160K for only a few months but she has caused me nothing but heartache and burning of my wallet. To be honest I'm a little fed up and out of pocket...so...
It has an issue with the heaters not blowing hot, but the coolant is good and flowing as far as I can tell ..
The car is misfiring even though I have just had a new coil pack, spark plugs and HT leads fitted...
I don't have the time or inclination to keep going with it, so I'm getting tired and was wondering what you guys thought it maybe worth and would someone buy it to repair like this?
I wouldn't want to scrap her...

Heater fix is easy enough. There's even a guide.
A well sorted Omega is reasonably cheap to run, but a neglected one will bite you every time.
With a short MOT it's worth about 10p/kilo.
If it's a manual, you might get more for it.

Ask yourself, how much would you pay for a 20+ year old V6 petrol with a number of issues your CBA to resolve. If you're honest with yourself, it would be less than scrap value. Unless the body and chassis is genuinely mint.

I sold mine to a member on here 5 years ago & it was totally immaculate with no issues whatsoever 2001 2.6 manual CDX for £700 which is peanuts, so as for one with issues it would be scrap value, a damn shame because they were fabulous cars in my opinion.

Ive been pondering whether or not to sell mine. I have come to a firm decision. Im definitely putting it up for sale, but Im not going to accept less than £1000 for it.
So I will probably be keeping it for a while. :)

No, I meant the Omega. Even if someone gave me a grand for it I would be over £1500 down on what Ive spent on it, and that doesnt include the purchase price. ::) ;D
Sometimes I really fancy a change. Other times I want to keep it forever. We shall see. :)

Keep it forever, you don't need a grand that desperately, and you'll regret it.

I doubt anyone will pay a grand for an 190k mile Omega anyway, so its all hypothetical. ;)

Ive never had a two seater or a convertible and Im getting old. If I dont get one soon I never will.
Keeping the Omega as well is an option but I would have three cars, and the Omega would never get used.
I have said every year for the last three years that I will sell it next summer.
I said the same a few weeks ago, and may well say similar this time next year. ;D

Owning three cars is not unfeasible, as long as you sorn one of them so you're not paying three lots of tax and insurance.

True, but two of them then would have to sit out on the street. At the minute the plastic cardboard hatchback sits on the street which doesnt worry me at all. Although I have lost three wing mirrors and had a door driven into while my cars have been parked out there over the years. I suppose I could drive the convertible in the summer and the Omega in the winter.
Wouldnt put many miles on either of them then. Probably 4000 miles a year split between the two.

That's a problem I have too, although where I park is a cul de sac (that's a dead end, Albs) so I won't lose a wing mirror.

If you break it, only bits worth good money are, downpipes, gearbox, flywheel (assuming Manuel) pedalbox,propshaft. Possibly engine.

Already looked into it. Dont care. I would own a Porsche. Even if it was permanently dismantled all over my drive. :P

Crux was that it's an issue that makes a pretty decent car cheaper to buy and fix than to buy a done one :y

That is a very nice looking car, worth a look if the history stands up could be ok.

Facelift rear lights and lose the AMG badges :y

It was built to AMG spec (apart from the engine) so the AMG badges would stay. The 55 badge, rear lights and garish engine cover would go though.
Mileage is pretty high, but like Omegas they can go to the moon and back if looked after.
MOT history adds up and is pretty good. Not much work needed to be done.
Im actually not that keen on Black. Would prefer dark metallic Blue given the choice. Could live with Black though.

Having read the description, fair dos re badges, but those rear lights cheapen it. And a set of facelift AMG wheels would go a long way for the looks...
£32 kit my arse to sort the front sagging... The accumulators need replacing.
If you test drive it, drive it hard and watch for the ABC warning.

They are a service item.
Or, you can leave it, save up and retro fit standard shicks/springs... There's a reliable, dedicated kit but it's about £1,200 iirc.

Plus the cost of the power steering pump from a non ABC S430/500
The £32 kit he mentioned in the ad may be the valve body seal kit, as these can leak internally and externally which might also cause it to sag over time.
Buy two valve bodies, refurbish them and get them fitted at the same time as the accumulators, or fit the Strutmasters kit and never worry about it again :y

Then don't, the problems listed are likely an easy fix. If you need parts, let me know, as I've got a couple of boxes full (thanks to Terry!) and I'm local.

I can recommend an MX5, I've had a few. If you go for an old one and it's a second car, whack it on a classic policy, I had a 5k miles limit and paid £120 for insurance. Just watch out for rust.

Sending TB to have a look over a Mercedes is something I wouldnt wish on any seller. Even if I did know them and didnt particularly like them. ;D

I popped over to TB's house a few years back in my brand new F33 bmw 430d convertible (the only convertible I've ever had) ........................ and as expected he took the piss and said it was a hairdresser's car. ;D

We have three hairdressers in our road , one has a Fiesta one has a Passat (both female on these) the male barber shop owner has a Kia Sorrento so perhaps the convertibles have had their day..

Female hairdressers tend to have kids, so a practical car makes sense. The chap with the Sorrento obviously has unresolved issues :D
