Lovely and I really wanted it until he mentioned the LS.
Now I wouldn't mind owning it ;D

I would have one with a stroked BB Mopar, alloy heads and proper management. 4 downdraft manifolds are available for these, and they sound awesome(a mate had then on his Interceptor) so throttle bodies would be easy. I don't particularly need the 4WD, so a later 4speed Mopar gearbox would be plenty.

Those 17" reproduction copies of the original 15s are gorgeous.

Take note of the exhaust; that's what V8s should sound like, not the raucous farting racket that modern euro ones make

£235,000, surely not out of Opti's reach?  :-X

I was thinking more of a 540 stroker kit at $2300 for the whole lot(although you'd add another $200 in options), ported aluminium heads about$1200 each and a 'middling' performance cam. 4 throttle bodies, or a pair of four barrel ones. Call it £10k ready to wire the Holley Dominator controller that will also run the electronic trans(A518) and you're done. Probably another £10k altogether. That's a 650hp street engine on the transition from mild to +/- serious, that will bolt straight back into the car(it's the block that came with it), retains the mechanical feel as well as the looks of the original and will be less than the GM drivetrain in the featured car. Which is running XJS suspension.

If your spending that sort of money on a reworked old banger then why try and buy one of these rare beastie to drop in the front..

£2.35 and even £23.50 is not out of my reach. I shall give him a bell. :y

£7700 in 1969.........roughly the cost of a couple of 3 bed  semi-detached houses.

So even at the 'new' price of £350,000 it's effectively cheaper now* than it was in 1969.  :)

*Depending where your 3 bed Semis are located of course.

The big block Mopar is a large part of an Interceptor's appeal to me, so it has to stay. Improving it to crazy levels is now cheap enough that I'd have to do it. Pete's used 4 Dellortos and a Megaspark ignition which woke up the basic 440 a treat. That $2300 I quoted for the stroker kit is for the entire rotating assembly - crank, rods, bearings, bolts and pistons - and will live with over 1000hp if you think that's necessary in a road car.

A decade ago an old rusty Interceptor could be had for about £10000. Not now. :-\

You're right he did.  :y

That's what they want for it now.  It cost the 'first' owner after it was rebuilt £350,000.  ;)

A decade ago £10k would have still just about bought a usable car. Scruffy, but usable. The biggest problem with using such a thing is the thirst, but that applies to anything with similar power - mental turbo four cylinder cars struggle to break 20mpg.

And yes, I've always fancied one although a good XJS would have made for a difficult decision.

I saw Eric Morcambes old Interceptor go through auction at the NEC, it made around 100k I think but was a standard car and very nice too :y
