How to fix Terry Pagets Vectra...
« on: 04 October 2020, 12:48:14 »

1. Buy these... https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/interior-temperature/heater/heat-exchanger/clip-heat-exchanger-service-kit/1042870/

2. Fit them.

3. Find something else to worry about.

If you would rather try your second nearest VX dealer, then you need part number 93171800.

Thanks, Doc, just seen it.
The man offering for sale the matrix and washers that I bought has given up and refunded my money. Seeing no way I could mend the matrix system, this morning I decided the car was probably a wreck. I therefore joined the matrix and pipes with the epoxy adhesive I used before on the thermostat. I will let you know how it turns out.

If you insist on scrapping it for a heater matrix, let me know.

Yes, it is daft.

I agree.
I am not sure where I went wrong. Heater was giving out no heat, blocked matrix seemed likely cause. I could find no furum guide for the Omega, but Haynes made it sound simple enough, with his usual 'refitting is a reversal of removal'. I found refitting difficult
The car cannot be driven. What should I have done?

Finding the part number for the seals and clips took me five minutes. On top of the five minutes spent finding a working parts list. Neither of which was particularly arduous.

Granted, I could have done this when you first had the issue (as could anyone else :-X) but it is what it is... Not from being unhelpful but certainly from a lack of inclination.

If I were you, my next step would be to give the above part number to your nearest dealer and get them ordered. If they aren't prepared or cannot be bothered to, then order them via the link above.

Whether you need another matrix depends entirely on how much you may have buggered up the existing one.

Apologies if that's all a bit direct.

No need to apologise, all fair comment. The e-bay matrix came with washers and new clips, I could buy another easily enough. My problem was not managing to assemble it correctly. I still believe there must be a technique, a procedure, that I have not twigged. On the assembly line at Russelsheim they must pop these on in under a minute, with never a leak.
Using Loctite EA9492 was a desperate measure. It has not cured fully yet, it's colder than when I last used it. Having done so will make dissembly almost impossible.

I don't think you are the only one to struggle with this:

Thank you, relieved to hear that. It begs the questions, how do they do it on the assembly line, and did Haynes find it so simple as to be unworthy of advice.

Seals into matrix, pipes into matrix, fit clamps.

At a guess.

I thought you and Nick had done this job.

Never claimed to have on one of these, but removing the trim is generally the trickiest part...

On a Vectra?

No.

But I have struggled with that sort of clamp, and copious lubrication from the start was the solution. Limited access and rigid pipes are what make applying the force necessary to fit the parts together tricky.

Looks like I shall scrap it, Doc. Are you interested?
