Brilliant replacement.
« on: 27 November 2020, 13:15:29 »

I know one or two on here have Range Rovers & Jags & this appears a common but annoying problem with them, the fuel filler cap strap breaks so it is possible to leave/ lose the cap . Mine was broken when I purchased the RRS last year  Jaguar/LR will only supply a new cap complete with strap which was around £23 when I enquired . On the RRS forum I read a post yesterday that Powerful UK have manufactured a strap for various Jags& Land Rovers for £4.88 Inc vat, I ordered one which arrived today there are instructions on YouTube on how to fit it correctly , so all fitted in a matter of minutes 👍

Yes....the 'cap strap' has been broken on my Tata for yonks.

I have left the cap on top of the car more than once and driven away. Luckily, I remembered before I had gone too far.  :-[

Back in the days when dinosaurs roamed the earth I seem to recall cars driving around with a piece of rag stuffed into the appropriate orifice.  :)

Just, Linky needed Rangie.  Mine bust a few months ago.

Opti, you know the cap is designed to clip on the raised bit of the hinge when filling, rather than dangle and bang on the bodywork ;).  This still works even with no strap.

Not computer savvy I'm afraid , I simply googled Powerful UK.com and searched for fuel filler cap replacement rubber strap for L320 Range Rover Sport. I am pretty certain that all Range Rovers & Jags are the same but their is a long list of models to ensure you obtain the right one, if you get one watch the video on YouTube re fitting I did mine in a couple of minutes. Any problems their email is   Contact@powerfuluk.com

£23 for the complete assembly isn't unreasonable  ;)

Mine was designed so that it slots into the filler door spring whilst the staff pour the petrol in... Which is nice 8)

It's not good, it's bloody brilliant.

The Saab has the slot to store the cap like the Vx, but the flange of the pump knocks it off, so I just leave it dangling by it's strap.  ;D

VAG cars have also suffered from broken fuel cap retaining straps for many years. Nothing new. Often caused when the strap doesn't twist round as intended with the rotational movement of the cap.
I can think of more serious issues to worry about with JLR cars though...

I can only quote on my personal experiences with the RR  a vehicle which I thought I would never buy although always giving it credit for being in my opinion the best looking 4x4, mine was low ownership with low mileage + full history, fortunately I knew somebody who knew a brilliant independent specialist who I gave free reign with mine financially to put any faults he found right, he said once it gets over the £2000 mark I'll give you a call so was surprised when my bill was only £900, in his opinion I'd found a good one. He said a lot of folk buy them & fail to maintain them properly but I have to admit that there is no way I would buy a new one with the faults that are being spoken about.

It's all personal choice in the end, I know a lot of folk are not as fussy as me with their vehicles but I like them 100 percent as they should be OCD I'm afraid after a lifetime in uniform & won't change now..👍

Yes....thanks TB. I am aware of this JLR 'refinement'. For some reason I remove the cap and then place it on the roof, or on the pump itself.

I'm pretty thick. :)

I can think of more serious issues to worry about with JLR cars though...
They are generally reliable and well designed now.  Both brands just carry so much reputation from being part of BL. Landrover has the additional problem of being owned by BMW for over a decade, which has trashed their reliability.

But anything from the latter part of Ford ownership, by the time Ford had fixed their own reliability issues and the BMW mentality had been removed from LR products, they stuff has been pretty solid.  So anything released in the last 15yrs or so, no major issues aside from early 6 speed ZF gearboxes, that impacted all manufacturers.

But a tarnished reputation is difficult to shake.

As you must remember TB I always said that I would never buy a Land Rover, but after driving the one I now own found it superb ,it has the Ford 3.6 TDV8 twin turbo engine which is said to be one of the best used, I really cannot fault it at all, the one to avoid is the 2.7 lots of engine problems which have been going on for years.

Be careful with heresy of others who don't know what they are talking about. These people were incorrect about your RRS, and made their assumptions by guesswork ;)

The TDV6 2.7 is a robust lump, irrespective of its fitment in Pugs, JLR products or Ford products.  The V8 version of that generation, the 3.6 is equally robust.
