External temp sensor?
« on: 25 April 2012, 20:14:11 »

The external temp sensor on my F/L 2.5 diesel has always been pretty accurate. A month or so ago, it went a bit haywire and ended up reading -40c in a very sunny and warm day. It then put up f    c on the info unit. I changed the sensor on the bumper and all was well again for a week. Now this one is throwing a wobbly and doing alsorts of odd readings. The worst part is that the heater seems to take its readingd from this to adjust the interior of the car to suit the set temp on the climate so you end up cooked. Any ideas? Keith B

Follow the wiring back to the multi-plug near the horns, plug tends to get corroded

Mine isnt working for some time but I didn't notice that it has effect on aircon.
When I asked the question here on the forum about the sensor some members said that it only serves to display the outside temp and nothing else.
I think the aircon has it own sensor for temp inside the cabin.
Also temp sensor is really cheap on ebay so maybe worth replacing

Outside temp is just for the display on PRE facelift, but on facelift cars, the climate controls 'talks' to the outside air temp sensor.  :y :y :y

like mentioned above it will be right at the front of the car and it will have two wires going into it, check the terminal for water ingress lightly put a tiny flat head screwdriver down it and spray wd40/gt85 to clean up the terminals, connect back up and test.
If still no luck get a new temperature sensor from a motor factors there not much i got one for my old astra the other day it was something like £12 :y
